Xbox 360

My son has asked for an Xbox 360 for Christmas but I’m not big on computers and know nothing about them. From the looks of it it’s an old one so is it worth getting? I’ve asked him if he would prefer newer console but he’s adamant he wants the 360 (already has PS4)

I don't think he'll be able to get newly released games on the X Box 360, only for the X Box One. So might be worth making sure he knows this

Oh that’s a good point! I was wondering about games anyway as I guess I would have to get them all of eBay or something which seems abit long if I can’t buy them in shops anymore. I will mention that to him

I'm not 100% sure you can get a 360 these days new - the only ones I've seen are secondhand.

I would get the Xbox One - they are backwards compatible and a lot of the 360 games are available for free. Plus he will also be able to play newer games

Game shops might still have second hand 360 games but new releases just won't be made for that console. So he could get FIFA 2016 for example but won't be able to get FIFA 2020, or any new game that comes out.

I would get an Xbox one, the 360 is now obsolete so you will only be able to play old games on it. New games are not backwards compatible so you will probably get pestered for an Xbox one once your son realised this and end up spending out twice!

No, we have an Xbox 360 (because a friend was selling it for £25 a couple of years ago) and I don't think Game even stock pre-owned games for them anymore. CEX might still do them.

We use ours mainly for watching TV, but can no longer get bbc iPlayer or All4 as it's obsolete, and I'm sure other stuff will slowly become unavailable as they update.

You definitely need to go with an Xbox one.

I will convince him to choose the Xbox One instead then as it seems like I will just be wasting money buying the 360! Thanks.

Depending on what he wants there are three types of Xbox you can buy, a 360 will be available secondhand only, go in to GAME and have a chat. Find out what games your DS wants to play. Get advice on setting up parental controls and set it all up before actual Christmas as may need updating plus downloading the games he wants to play. Some 360 games are compatible with new x boxes. I would advise having it in a family area. I’m a gamer of many years and I made DS have his console in a family area so I could keep an eye on what DS was up to.
