Bluetooth speaker recommedations

I'd like to treat myself to a great speaker for Christmas. It doesn't have to be portable or wireless necessarily as it's unlikely to ever leave my dining room. My main considerations are sound quality and ease of use. My budget is roughly £300, less if possible but I've no idea if you can get decent speakers for that price.

Any recommendations? Also, would you go for one speaker or is a pair better? Thanks x

I’d go for a pair.

I have no recommendations but I Iike the look of the Sonos ones.

Harmon Kardon speakers are amazing!!! We've had a few different brands over the years but this is definitely the best i've ever had. Sound quality is superb and its super easy to use. You can leave it plugged in, or use it as a portable. I quite often carry it about while doing the housework and its super light.
We have the onyx studio 4 but there is a newer model available. The RRP for the new one is £250 but there are usually good deals to be had if you shop about.

Thanks! Please keep the ideas coming!

I've got an apple HomePod. The sound is fantastic and it's really compact.

TR888 · 03/12/2019 23:01

Do you need an IPhone to use it, Toddlerteaplease?

I really need help with this! I am narrowing down the choice to the Onyx 4 speakers recommended in the thread and the Sonos One. What do you think?

Harmon kardon have the onyx 5 on their website for £155 if that helps you make your decision. Let us know what you do end up with

I love my Ultimate Ears Megaboom. Really portable, great sound and battery life, and waterproof!

Nunyabusiness · 05/12/2019 19:13

Another vote for the Sonos one here

TR888 · 06/12/2019 07:48

Thanks! Need to do some more research. The Onyx 5 apparently has some connectivity issues? Can somebody confirm?

Another vote for ultimate ears

Bang and Olufsun

We have two in the house now because they are amazing. Not the cheapest but definitey worth the money.. I've had mine a couple of years now, it's faultless and the sound quality is incredible.

Kelsoooo · 06/12/2019 07:58

Sonos
Boss
Bang and Olufsen

All amazing. I have a fairly cheap and cheerful Bose one that we use for the garden/in the kitchen (I'm messy) and for the size and portability it's got some amazing bass ability.

Notwiththeseknees · 06/12/2019 12:42

I've got an older Bose Sound 'something' 30 which has amazing sound. They have improved them now to include Bluetooth but I can't justify getting rid of my old one. The clarity is amazing and you can really party if you want to. If you are anywhere near Portsmouth there is a factory shop in Gunwharf Quay.

TR888 · 06/12/2019 21:40

Thank you all for your suggestions. It's not getting any easier, though... 😂

A sound engineer friend highly rates these:

I have a lovely Cambridge Audio speaker that's covered with tweed. It's very pretty.

TDMN · 06/12/2019 21:52

I have a JBL Charge 3, they are normally about £150 but they are £90 at Currys right now. I know nothing about speakers but DP does and he picked it (we had a price limit or he would have come back with something ridiculously £££) Very easy to use, holds a charge for ages, sound is good to my ears at least.

bluebump · 06/12/2019 21:55

I’ve got a Minirig, the sound quality is excellent.

HighOnStilts · 06/12/2019 22:01

I have a Bose but the bass distorts when I hit a certain volume which is really annoying. I had a JBL Radial... it was amazing and super, unfortunately you can't get them brand new anymore but I'm always on the look out on eBay for a second hand one, they're usually on there for about £50 when they do pop up. X

Barsh · 06/12/2019 22:02

We’ve got a Sonos one, really good sound quality. We’ve had Bose before and tha5 was fantastic. Thinking of getting a second sonos one.
