What is this sweet I'm eating?

I'm picked up a bag of sweets from a traditional sweet shop this weekend without paying enough attention and thinking they were toffee bonbons. Except they aren't. They are toffee bonbon coloured and a walnut shell shape. A very chalky texture and a very spicy yet sweet flavour. They almost melt and dissolve the minute you suck on them. I can't pinpoint the exact ingredient which makes it spicy but it's isn't unpleasent. Does anyone have any idea what they could be?

Sounds like Edinburgh rock but not sure on description

Ahl134 · 03/12/2019 20:21

They look like lucky tatties - cinnamon outer with and Edinburgh rock type inner. Original ones were flat circles, but these ones are better.

KerfuffleShuffle · 03/12/2019 20:22

It's not that as I bought some for my Edinburgh rock loving grandma. It's like nothing I've ever tried before. It's not a cinnamon flavour, almost peppery. A very acquired taste but rather yummy now I'm used to it.

This is truly why the internet is wonderful!

TitianaTitsling · 03/12/2019 20:28

Was going to say cinnamon bonbons like pp but now agree with astral and ginger creams!

KerfuffleShuffle · 03/12/2019 20:28

Yes that's it astralweaks. They're almost a peppermint cream texture when you chew them which makes sense given the name. Really quite tasty now I'm not as surprised. Imagine expecting a toffee bonbon and biting into a ginger cream!
