Have Heinz changed their tomato sauce recipe?

This is the definition of a First World problem, but here goes.

Twice recently I have been disappointed by Heinz. I occasionally treat myself to either their BBQ beans on toast or spaghetti hoops on toast. I haven’t had either for a while, but have had both recently - and they were so mediocre.

It was the sauce that was the problem both times - I think they have reduced the sugar and salt content of the tomato sauce and the BBQ sauce with the beans, and have, at the same time reduced the flavour to almost nothing.

I wish they could leave some products in the older, unhealthy version.

About a year ago I discovered Marks and Sparks Tomato Ketchup. Half the price of Heinz, and much tastier! Give it a go.

I will - thanks!

My family keep saying that the spaghetti either tastes of nothing or very metallic!

I am sure they have changed the recipe.

Ahh well - it wasn't ever the healthiest of lunches, so now I will have to think of something more sensible. Unless any of the own-brands have a nicer sauce - I may need to do a bit of research.

Apparantly branston is supposed to be a good choice. Not tried myself yet but know a lot of people who really like it!

Crinkle77 · 04/12/2019 12:57

Yep it's the reduced sugar. Nothing tastes like it used to. I used to love Vimto & Ribena but they just taste bland and horrible these days.

Sainsburys own reduced sugar and salt ketchup is really nice.

Well I'm sure they've changed their tomato soup recipe. It used to be my favourite but now tastes nothing like it used to-and YUK!

DeeZastris · 04/12/2019 23:55

Their baked beans sauce has gone all watery and not as flavourful. We swapped to Branston.

Titsywoo · 04/12/2019 23:59

Yes branston is much nicer.
