Help! What do I use to make the hedgehog body?

I’m doing a cocktail sausage hedgehog this weekend, and it’s just occurred to me that I have no idea what the hedgehog body is made of.
I know it needs covering in tinfoil for the traditional look
Also, if I do cheese and pineapple as well, will anyone actually eat it? I know I wouldn’t...

A large raw baking potato?

GruffalOH · 02/12/2019 21:06

Half a pineapple wrapped in foil?

And yes, I'll eat the cheese and pineapple Grin

dementedpixie · 02/12/2019 21:07

Melon half?

Legoandloldolls · 02/12/2019 21:07

A melon I think from my childhood....

Windygate · 02/12/2019 21:08

A white or red cabbage cut in half and covered in foil

dun1urkin · 02/12/2019 21:13

Hmmm I hadn’t thought of cabbage. That would be nice and firm...
Had considered melon, but was worried it might leak.
I think potatoes might make for baby hedgehogs

Half an orange is what I remember from my childhood.

NaviSprite · 02/12/2019 21:35

My Nan just used a bread roll, preferably a crusty seeded roll - that way it wasn’t a huge waste in her mind if nobody ate it and she’d throw it out for the birds the next day.

Be1atrix · 02/12/2019 21:40

Definitely cabbage!

And I'd wolf down cheese and pickled onions

Dizzywizz · 02/12/2019 21:41

I always thought it was half a grapefruit

Dizzywizz · 02/12/2019 21:41

And yes I would eat the cheese and pineapple!!

dun1urkin · 02/12/2019 21:41

Oooh cheese and onion!! Yesssssss I’ll do that instead of the pineapple
