Two mattresses on a king sized frame!

I'm wondering whether anyone has tried this as a solution to a fidgety bed fellow?

I've got a nice (although squeaky) king sized bed frame and have been thinking about getting 2 small single beds and making them up individually with single duvets (there's also a duvet stealing issue plus the fact that I like a top sheet as well as a duvet, weirdo that I am).

Is it worth all the effort? I can't afford a new super king bed so this seemed like a next best option, with some good bargains around at the moment.

Then there's the snoring...😩

I did spend a fair amount of time sleeping in a single bed, with a single duvet, when myself and DH were separating and I didn't love it tbh.
I'm only a slim person but any rolling over in bed meant a cold back and I was forever tugging the duvet hither and thither to make sure both my front and back were sufficiently covered when lying on my side.
If you're going to do this I'd recommend double duvets but that might mean a lot of excess duvet across one bed.

Evilmorty · 02/12/2019 17:18

I can’t tell if it’s genius or nuts but I did consider two separate duvets stitched together due to tog differences.

rhubarbcrumbles · 02/12/2019 17:19

you can buy duvets which are different tog ratings on each side.

Twin mattresses are the norm in some places - as ever, at least one of the Scandinavian countries does it. So very, very sensible. Go for it.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Double duvet just wouldn't work (duvet wars) so essentially it's like two single beds in one frame 😂

I'm prepared to give it a go I think.

Cant you just get two double duvets in your existing king bed? One each?

VincentVanGoughandhisear · 02/12/2019 17:51

Wont solve the snoring though!!

gobbynorthernbird · 02/12/2019 17:51

If you're going to go for it, put a double duvet on each for extra snuggliness.

WeeMadArthur · 02/12/2019 17:55

Yes, two single mattresses and two double duvets would do the trick.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 02/12/2019 17:58

Wouldn't that be a lot of duvet for one bed though?

Two duvets, I have a superking, if my boyfriend stays over I give him his own duvet, the beds also big enough that I barely notice he’s there, perfect.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 02/12/2019 19:12

Two double duvets Simon?

OP posts:
SimonJT · 02/12/2019 19:15

Yeah, single ones are too small, if you roll over etc they come off.

CadburySpira · 02/12/2019 19:18

I think this is genius, I keep thinking of doing the 2 single duvets thing because we once stayed in an AirBnB where we ended up doing this and it was great! Also a tip for the snoring, DH now has 3 fat pillows and it has kerbed most of his snoring, try it!

FrederickSinclair · 02/12/2019 19:22

I keep wondering about doing the same, so following to see what others say!

AtiaoftheJulii · 02/12/2019 19:27

We used to have a superking frame with two normal single mattresses on it, because we were in the attic and didn't think we could get a 6' mattress up there! We had a thick topper over it and it worked absolutely fine.

And yes, two double duvets!

Alpacathebag · 02/12/2019 19:30

We have a king size bed with a memory foam mattress and a king size duvet each. It’s heaven.

gobbynorthernbird · 02/12/2019 19:32

There's no such thing as too much duvet.

MostIneptThatEverStepped · 02/12/2019 19:39

That's true gobby, true indeed.

For the pp who said she had 2 mattresses on a bed, was the bit in the middle annoying?

OP posts:
MostIneptThatEverStepped · 02/12/2019 19:41

Ah wait you had a topper, which I can't have as I need to put a top sheet on my half 🧐

OctoberLovers · 02/12/2019 19:42

Im big and a single duvet is absolutely fine to be honest

umberellaonesie · 02/12/2019 19:43

We do this as I'm the same like a top sheet where as he liked a leg out the bed. It works really well and we both sleep better.

ladygracie · 02/12/2019 19:43

I stayed in a hotel with two mattresses recently and it was a complete pain as you could feel the gap and if you were the one who ended up in it, it was really uncomfortable. You’d need a good mattress topper but if you did that then I think it would work. Definitely two double duvets though!

AtiaoftheJulii · 02/12/2019 19:46

Oh, I was assuming your top sheet was loose if you have it under a duvet. I can't bear having things tucked around me though.

At times we didn't have the topper on (memory foam gets a bit hot in the summer for me) and no, the 'gap' was fine really - I didn't want to sleep on it, but as long as you have a frame that will hold the mattresses in firmly, you won't fall down it! Just had to shuffle over during sex sometimes 😂

umberellaonesie · 02/12/2019 19:46

Here is our set up it is super king divan with 2 mattresses that have the option to zip together. But we have them made as two singles
