What has happened to Keir Starmer?

I'd have thought given the Labour leaders lack of popularity that he would be used to front the campaign. But instead he has completely disappeared.

Has something happened to him?

Snp mps will be campaigning in their own constituencies whereas Nicola as an msp doesn’t need to and can do the media stuff.

What is a "working class accent"? RLB is northern but plenty of middle class people have northern accents.

The only good thing that will come out of this shitshow election is that when if labour lose JC will have to resign and Keir Starmer will take over as leader.

I hope he's keeping his head down ready to become leader after the election.

Starmer, Thornberry and surprisingly Abbott nowhere to be seen. Gardiner, Burgen and Long-Bailey appear to be the chosen ones.

SwedishEdith · 02/12/2019 19:23

Starmer is on Twitter, campaigning around the country and in his own constituency. Agree he's keeping a distance between himself and Corbyn but Labour can't just make him leader. His background is very modest - Labour should make more of that. He can't put on an accent though 😁

Cinammoncake · 02/12/2019 19:52

I really like Ian Blackford, he's one of my favourite politicians.

I too think Kier is lying low, plus he's not one of the far left wing momentum gang so he's not right in the middle of things as they currently stand. This may change after Labour lose the election and realise that Corbyn is never going to be a winner for them (sadly)

ihateryansworld · 02/12/2019 20:30

I see why they benched Diane Abbott. She's a disaster in front of a camera. Rees Mogg too. I hope Starmer is lying low through choice. I was concerned it had something to do with that doctored GMTV interview.

He’s going to be in Southampton itchen campaigning this weekend - it’s a really marginal seat

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 02/12/2019 20:52

I really hope Kier Starmer is leader of the LP soon but unfortunately the left of the party have too much of a hold at the moment and they will never support him

Maybe in a few years ready for the next election

What, like all other mp's? They manage to do both, presumably!

Nicola Sturgeon isn't an MP.

My point is that Nicola sturgeon and a lot of the most senior snp people are not mps. They’re in the Scottish parliament so no election to fight themselves so they’re lending their fight to the national cause. Why not?

I imagine welsh assembly members are doing the same.

DirtyWindow · 03/12/2019 07:51

He was out campaigning for Faiza Shaheen in Chingford the other day (campaign to unseat IDS).
