Anyone else with a really hideous cough at the moment?

Me and DD (9 months) both have this hideous cough which is making us gag. It doesn’t seem to want to go away either!

I don’t think there is anything we can take either.

Is it doing the rounds or something? It’s the worst cough I’ve had in a really long time and I’m asthmatic!

I think croup is doing the rounds here. Touching wood neither my dc nor I have had that delight but the other night when we went to watch the Xmas lights switch on I could feel the cold air getting right to the bottom of my lungs and irritated me. I needed several puffs of my inhaler before I felt better.

Magicmonster · 01/12/2019 23:31

Yep we have had it here. My 2 year old has been waking up due to it in mkddle of night, and sometimes making her sick. It’s been about5 weeks now!

Thiscoughneedstofuckoff · 01/12/2019 23:48

I didn’t even think of croup 🤦‍♀️

Although I’m not sure she has it or not. Just that we have this horrible dry cough that’s making us gag.

I’m so done with all the illnesses at the moment

Yep. Dd and Dh have had it. Dh has cracked a rib coughing and my dd was waking herself up all night. My mil also had it for a fortnight, plus others in the family.

Mercifully both mr and my newborn seem to have avoided it so far.

Hope you’re all on the mend soon op.

cheeseislife8 · 01/12/2019 23:56

I've had it too OP, I feel for you! 2 weeks in and its starting to shift. It's being kept awake that's the worst!

Bluesheep8 · 02/12/2019 05:35

Another one here, DP had it for weeks and now I've started with it. Feels like catargh stuck at the back of my throat but the cough is really dry and worse at night but I can't cough anything up. It's really annoying!

Franklymydearidontgiveadam · 02/12/2019 05:57

Yep had it here too.

Only just starting to go. Xx

Millie2013 · 02/12/2019 05:59

Yes, I keep coughing until I choke and it’s also making me dIzzy! I’m in he spare room, as OH starts a new work contract today, so I didn’t want to keep him awake Blush

TrixieFranklin · 02/12/2019 06:18

We've all had it at my house - 4 month old baby and pre schooler twins - oh joy!
Dr gave 1 of my twins (had it worst for 3 weeks) antibiotics and it went in a few days later although was probably on its way out anyway.

LongLiveThePenis · 02/12/2019 06:26

My 9 month old has it too, she keeps vomiting from coughing. Her eyes are streaming too.

AuntieMarys · 02/12/2019 06:29

Broncho Stop is very good. Tastes horrible but it helped me

wherestheotherone · 02/12/2019 06:40

My 6 year old has it plus a temp and she's generally not well.

captainpantbeard · 02/12/2019 06:41

DH has it. He’s so pissed off. It’s worse morning/evening. He can get to sleep but if he wakes he’ll be coughing for an hour

Gonetharnagain · 02/12/2019 06:45

Whooping cough? GP suspects I may have had it. Started in August and after 3 rounds of antibiotics plus steroids and an inhaler it's finally tailing off. Bruised ribs, pulled muscles, vomiting after coughing fits, loss of bladder control and disturbed sleep for months. Weirdly I felt fine inbetween the coughing fits.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/12/2019 06:47

Yes. On week 4 here. Thought it was going but it’s back. It’s driving me nuts.

magicstar1 · 02/12/2019 07:26

I have it here too...Vicks on my feet is helping me to sleep. Without it I was waking up choking with a wracking cough. Now it’s more tickly all day and sore, but at least I’m sleeping.

Thecrown3 · 02/12/2019 07:34

I’m in the coughing gang too but think mine has turned to an infection.calling docs at 8am.
Came on suddenly though from Friday night.

HalyardHitch · 02/12/2019 07:36

My eldest has just been in hospital with bronchiolitis. Lasts 4 weeks. Apparently just a virus and very few need treatment. The children's ward was full of kids with the same issues

MrsEricBana · 02/12/2019 07:39

Me too. Bronchostop helped me as well - liquid and the pastilles.

AfterSomeAdvice1234 · 02/12/2019 07:39

Ugh me too! 9 days in and hoping it's gone by the weekend...

TheSandman · 02/12/2019 08:38

Just decided to keep my son (10) off school with it. DD1 (17) had it for about 10 days and is coming out of it now.

DrPimplePopper · 02/12/2019 09:31

Yup week 4 of it here as well, me and DH finally feel like we're coming out off a fog. He's asthmatic and had it worse, had a fair few days in bed recovering, plus 2 trips to the GP for antibiotics and new inhalers. It's awful. Luckily the DC haven't had it to that extent and seem to be on the right side of it

BlueStocking007 · 02/12/2019 09:38

Week 4 for my 13 year old. Asthma review last Friday, to maintain regular use of inhalers! Night time is TERRIBLE, barking cough relentlessly through the night. Any tips to ease would be gratefully received.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 02/12/2019 09:57

Had a course of pred the week before last for the asthma. Hasn’t done much for the cough. Have cough predominant asthma too which doesn’t help.

Singlenotsingle · 02/12/2019 10:06

I've had it for nearly 3 weeks now, and the GP's put me on antibiotics.
