Is it ever worth buying a second hand or refurbished iPad Mini?

I have the first version and it's slowly becoming less useful.

I am therefore looking at a newer version before I go away for a month next summer (as I don't want to take a laptop!) I have seen that there mainly is only the Touch ID between the 2 and 3 ipad mini, so may well just buy the 2. I don't / can't spend a lot from one from the Apple Store but I am concerned it may be a false economy to get one via Ebay or Amazon Marketplace.
The ones that are just simply second hand on Ebay are obviously far cheaper than one's with a 12 month warranty and I would like to hear opinions on how important this is.

The one I have now is getting too old to have various apps on it, and running VERY slow despite me taking stuff off, or wiping it completely and then starting again - is this something that is likely to happen with any model more than a few years old?

Sorry if I am asking stupid questions, I am just weighing up options and costs so would like to hear views and experiences!

Thank you

I bought a refurbished iPad mini 4 off eBay and wasn't impressed at all. Battery was pretty dodgy. I returned it and bought the same refurbished one direct from Apple. It's been brilliant, no issues at all. A bit more expensive but I found it worth it.

Hmm, okay. That's good to know. Not having much experience, I am not sure how durable ipad's are

I have an iPad mini 4 from release it's still working quick enough, no issues with apps etc.

I bought a refurbished iPad 2 from Wowcher or similar around 3 years ago and it’s still going strong.
