Best family board game a 5 year old can join in with?

I want to buy some board games this year, something the whole family will enjoy but that but 5 year old can join in (even with a bit of help). I always remember loving Game of Life when I was a kid, we played it as a family a lot! And Hotels (anyone remember that one?!). I noticed in Aldi they are selling Cranium.

Can you recommend any good board games that could span 3 generations (from an 80 year old to a 5 year old)??

Following! Was thinking the same thing this afternoon...!!

We bought Outfoxed. It's a bit like Cluedo but for younger kids. You play as a team against the fox. Our 5yo can play it with us and it takes about 15mins to play a game. Perfect duration for our DS.

Not a board game but we enjoyed family version of charades when kids were small

Not a board game but I'm getting Bingo this year.

Not board games, but Yahtzee and Uno have always been faves in our house.

I’ll be following with interest - we haven’t got board games yet but we love hungry hippos, pop up pirate, and silly spaghetti

MonstranceClock · 01/12/2019 19:37

My 5 year old loves monopoly, chess, guess who, trivial pursuit (the kids version has adult questions and kids ones), Pictionary and mousetrap l.

CroissantsAtDawn · 01/12/2019 19:38

Great thread idea. We love board games but the only game our 5 year old joins in with is uno, snakes and ladders and coppit.

Thanks for all the responses. I’ve just found a junior cranium which is suitable for 5-15 year olds... any reviews of that?

Is Dobble any good?

Connect 4 is a classic too!

MissingMySleep · 01/12/2019 19:47

5 second rule, you just pick easy ones for the 5 year old. Excellent family game

cornflakegirl · 01/12/2019 19:50

Dobble is great!

A cooperative game like Forbidden Island or Castle Panic works well.

PretzelPrincess · 01/12/2019 19:51

Ludo
Snakes and ladders

Fraggling · 01/12/2019 19:59

Yy dobble

PurpleCrazyHorse · 01/12/2019 20:33

Dobble is brilliant. Ideal for little kids once they know what the images are called (ying yang took a while in our house!). Comedy adult game too especially after a drink or two! It's our go to birthday present gift Blush

PurpleCrazyHorse · 01/12/2019 20:34

@cornflakegirl oh yes, forgot about Forbidden Island. A firm favourite with our 9yo DD.

TooMinty · 01/12/2019 20:36

There's a junior version of Monopoly. Guess Who is popular in my house 🙂

OverByYer · 01/12/2019 20:38

Rapidough

rainbowlou · 01/12/2019 20:44

Minion monopoly

Sportycustard · 01/12/2019 21:37

Qwirkle is good for all ages. It's like a cross between scrabble and dominoes. You match shapes or colours on tiles.

There's no board, just a bag of tiles which you can just lay on the floor or on a table. This also means it's easy to pack for holidays.

TheLurkingOne · 01/12/2019 21:39

Labyrinth is brilliant

SpockPaperScissorsLizardRock · 01/12/2019 21:40

Junior monopoly is great.

thismeansnothing · 01/12/2019 21:43

Uno
Frustration (especially when you gang up on family members. OK DH)
5 second rule
Rummicub

TheSandman · 01/12/2019 21:46

Dobble

Guess Who

Sorry - Like Ludo but nasty.

bettybyebye · 01/12/2019 22:04

Dobble is great! My 4 and 6 year olds love it. They also love battleships, but the youngest needs to be on a team with someone
