If you had £250 to spend on yourself what would you buy?

My parents very generously offered to give me £250 that must be spent on me. (I work very hard for not a lot of money and, as with most parents, most of my money is spent on the DC and house etc.) But I am stuck for what to buy. Their suggestion was clothes but I don't really need anything. I am also trying to be less consumerist/declutter/live more simply etc. So don't want to spend lots of money on clothes I don't need. Although I would be open to spending it on one classic and quality item that would get loads of use (leather jacket??)
I don't need anything for the house. I love books but again don't want to spend the money for the sake of it!
My hair is a bit of a disaster so could use some of it to get highlights etc done. Wondering if the Dyson hair products are all they are cracked up to be and if I should spend the money on something like that to try and sort my hair out?
I would like to spend it on something that is a real treat and not fritter it away.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Coat and boots for me and if there was some left a new pair of jeans.

DragonontheWagon · 01/12/2019 17:21

Some really good skincare, it makes a world of difference to how you feel.
A decent haircut and some salon shampoo and conditioner, don't care what anyone says, my hair has never looked or felt better since ditching high street hair care.

My parents would have gone ballistic if I'd had a tattoo with money they'd gifted me!

PajamasnoDramas · 01/12/2019 17:29

Leather jacket and jewelry would be my shout. I splurged on Black Friday deal on a necklace I’ve wanted for yeeeaaaarrrrs. I quit smoking in spring and that is my reward paid for with money not spent on cigs. Still felt hard spending that amount on myself though.

my MIL gave me around that amount for my birthday, i bought a nintendo switch

I'd go for a nice handbag or purse from coach, aspinal or coccinelle. But, wait for the sales, as you could pick up a purse for under £100.

Then, I'd have a facial or other beauty treatment.

Enjoy.

Tattoo? Spending so much to look so cheap is never a good idea

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/12/2019 18:15

Lilgreen - that's not very nice, and certainly not at all necessary. The only thing 'cheap' is your cattiness.

NomDeQwerty · 01/12/2019 18:19

100ml bottle of my favourite perfume and start save for the next bottle with the £20 change.

lilgreen · 01/12/2019 18:19

Just my opinion. I can’t bear tattoos.

tinierclanger · 01/12/2019 18:19

A telescope 😀

ruthieness · 01/12/2019 18:20

BaByliss big hair - a gamechanger!

BertieBotts · 01/12/2019 18:24

Boots. Lovely warm sturdy boots that will last a long time. But I tend to wear my shoes out because I find them so expensive to buy new.

A nice pair of warm gloves. I hate having cold hands.

I'd put the rest into Kindle vouchers.

passthetea · 01/12/2019 18:26

I always struggle with posts like this as I have 5 kids and never get the chance to think about what I'd like Confused people ask me want I want for Xmas and I'm always stumped lol. Thinking about it now........nope I literally can't think of anything, how sad is that Blush

Madein1995 · 01/12/2019 18:38

Ooh...

Colouring books. Nice, posh, good quality colouring books.

Some new make up - I know, boring! I've tended to wear the same kind of stuff for years and could do with a make over in boots or something. I'd look fab probably but the price would be mad!

Nice perfume. I have o e or two bottles but mam has a whole shelf and it just seems like a grown up thing to do. Just one bottle mind.

A nice towelling dressing gown

Spa massage treatment

Lush products - I adore their shower gels and body washes

If anything is left I would get gin.

Purplecatshopaholic · 01/12/2019 18:47

Dyson hairdryer or Phillips Lumea - both game changers

AlohaMolly · 01/12/2019 18:54

my Underwear situation is so shocking at the moment - all my knickers are coming away from the elastic at the waist, two of my three bras have an underwire coming through and the third one doesn’t actually fit. I have one pair of tights that are thinner now at the ankles and I have a hole in the toe and at the gusset.

I would be buying myself good quality, long lasting underwear and tights and getting myself a decent hair cut. I’m not sure what I’d do with the rest... panic that I wasn’t making the most of it and maybe keep it to one side so if I fancied a coffee I could have one without feeling guilty that it was coming out of my account.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/12/2019 19:05

And you are entitled to your opinion, LilGreen - but it was shitty to express it on here, where it was irrelevant, and shitty to express it so rudely.

Lovely underwear is a really good idea. I also like the suggestion of a nice dressing gown. A dressing gown and really good slippers would be a lovely present for somebody to have a proper treat for themselves.

DameDoom · 01/12/2019 19:22

I would get my hair cut and coloured by a fabulous stylist and some lovely make-up or get teeth whitening trays and gel from the dentists. Enjoy your treat whatever you decide.

charm8ed · 01/12/2019 19:22

I also thought the dressing gown was a really good suggestion.

Cookit · 01/12/2019 19:26

I’d get a great haircut. Maybe not highlights as they will need doing every 1.5 months and it’s expensive. A haircut can be maintained much more cheaply, but I’d spend money initially on a great stylist to get something really flattering.

A massage as well would be great. A good half a day to yourself will likely do wonders.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/12/2019 19:36

I'd probably get a combination of luxury pedicures and hot stone facials (the only beauty treatments I like).

My lady also does deals if you 'bulk-buy' treatments, so I'd probably end up with 1-2 free treatments too, bonus!

I don't want any more stuff that I haven't already got!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 01/12/2019 19:37

Lilgreen "Just my opinion. I can’t bear tattoos"

So don't get one then Hmm

Vava87 · 01/12/2019 19:48

If you are tempted but the Dyson products, have a look at the Revlon pro collection salon one step hair dryer and volumiser. You will still have 210 left :-)

lioness88 · 01/12/2019 20:14

I got the dyson air dryer for Christmas last year and have only used it about 3 times. The hairdryer is great though and I use that every time I wash my hair.

I'd buy a good quality pair of boots. I highly recommend these, I got them recently and they are soo comfortable: airandgracelondon.com/collections/womens-luxury-shoes/products/jessa-black-leather-lace-up-boots

Brigante9 · 01/12/2019 22:34

A decent electrician to fix the sodding expensive cooker hood that the incompetent sparky appears to have ruined.
