I don't know what to do.

My DD, 3 years old is hysterical. Keeps saying her bum/bits hurt. And just grabbing at herself.
I've tried calpol, barrier cream, Vaseline. Gave her a bath.

But literally every 10 minute she is wriggling around in pain and crying.
I've never seen her like this and obviously non of us are getting any sleep!

If we turn the lights on, sit and chat to her she goes back to normal. But soon as we try to sleep it starts again.
I don't know what to do?

Have you checked her for thread worms?

Frownette · 01/12/2019 00:40

You need medical advice

Lofari · 01/12/2019 00:40

Sounds like worms. Definitely check.

Worms! Get some Ovex ASAP tomorrow and dose the whole family. Repeat in two weeks time. This inconsolable crying and distress at this time if night is classic for worms. Give calpol and cuddles now, it will pass.

seeyoubugaboo · 01/12/2019 00:40

Could she have bee scratching herself in her sleep, having a wee would make it really sore. What about a bath?

StickyToffeeTart · 01/12/2019 00:40

It sounds like worms, if so I think you need to check while she's asleep! Sorry Thanks fingers crossed she feels better soon

BertieDrapper · 01/12/2019 00:41

I've checked for worms. Haven't seen any
She won't let me near her anymore.

OP posts:
BertieDrapper · 01/12/2019 00:42

She won't sleep!

OP posts:
Kyriesmum1 · 01/12/2019 00:46

Could she have a bladder infection? Is her wee really sting and needing to go lots?

BertieDrapper · 01/12/2019 00:50

Nope not lots of wee.

She was sick yesterday... randomly. But fine after that.
Now this. Cos we are all awake and talking about what we can do, she's calmed down and seems ok. But as soon as we go quiet she starts kicking her legs, and crying in pain. Just keeps saying her bits hurt.

I think my DH is gonna go to a 24 hr pharmacy but it work straight away will it?
Worm medicine that is.

I have (thankfully and touch wood) not had any experience with worms. But sound like it could be that. Or has she maybe not wiped properly and got a bit irritated from that. Agree u should seek advice in the morning. Reassuring that she is distractable and consolable from it.

It's a pain to do but I have did it on occasion when mine just cant settle. Is get them up lights on. Do a simple activity (jigsaw colour a picture) distract and forget all about bedtime. Then repeat the bedtime routine. So brush teeth story whatever u normally do and I have found it to work better and less stressful than sitting in the room both getting frustrated that she cant sleep. It worked from me when they had got really worked up just to reset the bedtime if that makes sense. But depends if she is likely to fight going back to bed after the activity or not. I am always very clear we will do x for 15 mins. Then 10 mins left then 5 mins ok come let's brush your teeth and they have. But I am always nervous the back to bed bit with trigger a tantrum but surprisingly it doesnt. Good luck. if u are worried about her nhs 24 can offer advice.

WorraLiberty · 01/12/2019 00:52

You don't need Mumsnet, you need medical advice from 111

Thegirlwithnousername · 01/12/2019 00:54

We have just had our second lot of Threadworms! It sounds familiar. Over takes a few days to work as it starves them.
We found putting Sudocream on his bum at night helped massively with the itchy and distress.
If she will let you look use a torch they come towards the light.

BertieDrapper · 01/12/2019 00:58

She wants to sleep. She just can't
She's passed out now. Just not sure how long for!

I used the light on my phone but no sign that I could see of any worms at all but that is what I was thinking it was.

My OH is leaving now for a pharmacy.

It's so horrid to see her like it and she just keeps telling her bits hurt..... but I have no idea how to make it better

I would call 111 but I know it's not an emergency so chances are they will just make a Drs appointment for tomorrow.

Oh bless her :(
If you can't see them then it's probably not worms they are very present at night time!.
Have you tried nurofen? My DD wouldn't settle the other night and only that helped she had already had Calpol.

OneHanded · 01/12/2019 01:15

Might also be allergic reaction I get like that as a grown woman with them!

BertieDrapper · 01/12/2019 01:19

Thankfully she has stayed asleep so far.

The pharmacy that is is meant to be 24 hrs was closed!

sashh · 01/12/2019 01:22

I'm thinking worms too.

I have no idea if this is placebo effect but my grandmother used to give me lemon barley water when my bits itched (happened a lot, I had worms, they were not treated) they used to sell it at pharmacies.

I'm also thinking a bath with oats, people recommend that for chicken pox, it might help.

Sorry to have no concrete soloutions.

GAW19 · 01/12/2019 01:27

Op 111 is for any medical advice that isn't an emergency.
They will help you out with any questions you have and tell you the best thing to do.
I've called them when my dd has been poorly Smile

2019user44 · 01/12/2019 01:38

Could it be cystitis?

BertieDrapper · 01/12/2019 09:05

Thank you to everyone's responses last night.

DD finally managed to sleep. I think she was just exhausted. So we all managed to get to sleep around 2ish. She was still up at around 7!! As if nothing had happened in the night.

We will get some worm treatment today and hope that that is it! And we don't have a repeat tonight!

Thanks again for your responses, things always seem worse in the midnight hours and your messages really helped xxx

sashh · 01/12/2019 12:47

Glad she is sounding better.

Thegirlwithnousername · 02/12/2019 13:05

How did last night go?

BertieDrapper · 02/12/2019 13:42

She went to bed at normal time, she hadn't napped in the day so was exhausted. Fell straight to sleep.
Thankfully we also went to bed around 8.30 as she woke up at 11.30...I didn't even try and get het to sleep I just brought her downstairs, and put her programmes on until she passed out from exhaustion around 2.30. We both slept on the sofa and she woke around 8.45.....I actually saw the worms though so at least we know for sure what we are dealing with.

Just hoping tablets are working and tonight will be ok. Not sure I can do another day on zero sleep!! Trying to wash all bedding and towels after use, just scrubbed the bathroom again.
thankfully she quite happy having a PJ day today!

Thanks for checking in xx
