DC has first ever vomiting bug. Am I doomed to catch it?

Erm likely

Mine are older now so rarely catch them!

Musicalstatues · 30/11/2019 21:31

Not necessarily. I’ve only caught one from my dc and that was after he vomited in my face so not really surprising!

DramaAlpaca · 30/11/2019 21:32

I used to when they were very small. Most memorably when DS was just over a year old & I was in the early stages of pregnancy. He'd picked it up at nursery, and DH & I both caught it, it was awful. Once they got a bit older, school age or so, we stopped getting them.

No, mine are 10 and 8 and I haven't been sick for about 9 years since I was pregnant with DD2.

wendz86 · 30/11/2019 21:34

No a couple of times eldest has had it and I (and younger daughter) avoided it .

Tiredmum100 · 30/11/2019 21:35

Luckily no!

bloodywhitecat · 30/11/2019 21:35

No, I rarely, if ever, caught a bug from my kids when they were small. Practise good hand hygiene using hot water and soap and keep your hands away from your eyes, nose and mouth as much as possible

SimonJT · 30/11/2019 21:36

Mine had D&V that started late Monday night, I haven’t caught it and I have never caught D&V from him in the past. I did spend my first eight years of life in Pakistan, guys of steel!!

Fizzypoo · 30/11/2019 21:36

No, make sure you clean properly, including door handles and tv remotes and you should be alright. Keep windows open too.

Awkward1 · 30/11/2019 21:36

I think that depends
On whether its a d&v bug or something that children get as d&v
So some bugs can cause utis/croup/d&v etc
Hand foot and mouth can also cause vomitting. As can chicken pox.
Generally we havent all caught the d&v but it was more likely with dc1 and then also when dc2 was little. As you build up immunity to different ones.
When visting with cousins they seem to infect our ds's so one year the uncle got ill then neice then my ds2.
The next year DN 2 ill and my ds1. But both times about 5 other people didnt catch it. However they maybe felt a bit off /had a headache or cold etc.
Some people just naturally dont get d&v.
I think you are only immune from norovirus about 16w so i guess people could be in different stages of that.

RandomMess · 30/11/2019 21:48

We all got norovirus absolutely horrific 😭

MamaFlintstone · 30/11/2019 21:50

It’s been about half and half with my toddler so far. Annoyingly, the times DH and I caught the bug too we had it way worse than she did.

Hadenoughofitall441 · 30/11/2019 22:52

Not really, been many times when I’ve been the only one not sick. Not so much d&v, I have laryngitis at the mo and kids are fine. It’s weird how it works

gamerwidow · 30/11/2019 22:54

Tempting fate but DD has only had a sick bug once in her 9 years and I didn’t catch it. I’ve had sick bugs in that period but fortunately she didn’t catch them due to good hand hygiene and luck (mostly luck).

Titsywoo · 30/11/2019 22:56

I have never caught it off my kids and they have had sickness bugs loads of times. The two times I have had it in the last 20 years were when I caught it from another adult.
