Water birth?

When I was in labour with DD I was literally all set for a water birth. Just before I went in the midwife took my blood pressure and it had shot up. This meant at 10cm and feeling the urge to push I had to get dressed, come off gas and air and be moved to the delivery ward. Not a nice experience.
Now 37 weeks with my second and can't decide whether to just put in my birth plan to go straight to delivery. However, I keep thinking a water birth would really help with the pain/relax me.
Basically my question is how have others found their water births? Especially those who have had both a water birth and a non water birth.
TIA

Water birth DC1 and land birth DC2. Water was much less painful. Felt very private and safe, in tune with my body. Land birth agony, scary, total lack of privacy or even humanity, stuck on my back on a bed being held down and shouted at. I feel utterly grateful to have had such a lovely experience with DC1, every woman deserves to labour peacefully in dignity which I feel the pool allowed me to do while also still being in a medical setting.

scaredy yes I was just in the bath as it went so fast that there was no time to fill the pool. Was still really good pain relief. I stayed in to deliver, it's quite a deep bath and I was on my side with my leg up.

Not sure if anyone will see this now but thank you all for telling me your experiences of water births. I had my DS on Monday. This time my experience was so different. My midwife was fantastic and reassuring and my blood pressure didn't go up. So I was able to have a water birth. It relaxed me a lot and felt much more private. Wouldn't say it did much in terms of pain relief but I was so much calmer.
