2 hours.

2 bastard hours I've been unknotting, draping, testing and repositioning the fuckers.

And they Still. Don't. Sit. Right.

Is there a trick I'm missing out on? Because honestly, I'm about 30 seconds from slinging the lot out of the nearest window (along with the tree)

Merry Christmas Angry

Serves you right - it not even December yet Shock Wink

ChipInTheSugar · 30/11/2019 20:13

Next year, wrap them round a piece of cardboard, so at least they shouldn't be twisted/knotted!

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 30/11/2019 20:17

after 7 years of swearing at the bastarding lights and ending up wrapped in them resembling a Christmas tree myself I've bought a prelit one this year. reduced to £26 in Sainsbury's and I'm hoping will save my sanity 😆 although I did carry it home on the bus along with my food shopping which involved some swearing!!

BlobbyTheLump · 30/11/2019 20:18

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine I started early because it'll probably be new year before the fuckers do as they're told!

@nocutsnobuttsnococonuts Pre-lit? That's it my tree's going in the bin. I want a pre lit one Envy

Pre lit trees are your friend.

BlobbyTheLump · 30/11/2019 20:19

@ChipInTheSugar I wrapped them round postage tubes last year and they've still got themselves tangled, I'm sure they wait until I've closed the box before having an orgy and tying themselves in knots.

I did mine yesterday and surprisingly had no knots, I actually couldn't believe it.

iklboo · 30/11/2019 20:32

Cut wee triangles in straight pieces of card so it looks like a comb (sort of). Then wrap the lights. The notches stop them sliding together and tangling.

BURN THE WITCH!!!

Lunafortheloveogod · 30/11/2019 20:41

Mine weren’t tangled either this year.. loo roll tubes is my secret I swear it’s not witchcraft!

But they’re the devil! Mine are just thrown at the tree until there’s too bloody many and then I blame dp for helping.. it’s easier with wine. Or just not caring Grin.

Wait to January for a new tree.. my 7ft 1000+ tip from hell tree was £19. I still want a prelit one.. but I’m not sure if it’d be lit enough.

duckling84 · 30/11/2019 21:02

Last year after christmas I removed the sentimental/breakable baubles from the tree but left everything else - lights, tinsel, cheap plastic baubles etc. Wrapped bubble wrap around the tree and put it straight into the loft as I was. Got it down last weekend and apart from a bit of tweaking - it's all perfect.

iswhois · 30/11/2019 21:05

Prelit all the way!!!!!! Not as many lights but so much bloody easier

BlobbyTheLump · 30/11/2019 22:23

@iklboo thank you for the tips, if I haven't burnt my tree (+ lights) I will be giving it a go!

Well another 2 hours later and I've given up for the night; I was doing so well until the last 10M or so... they've gotten tangled around the fucking tree base, only way to untangle them, I think, would be to take the lot off and start again.

So I'm drinking gin instead.

DP walked in and said 'Tree looks nice love' so sarcastically. WIBU to garrotte him with the lights?

Oh, and I'm tucked up nice and warm in bed with my gin

And forgot to give the advent calendar to the elf.
So he can fuck off as well.

At least we have moved on from the time when you had to buy spare bulbs and then there was something daft like they were wired in series of 6 or something I didnt understand but used to drive my parents mad.

Ohffs66 · 30/11/2019 22:34

Last year I got ours out, tested they still worked, unknotted them ever so patiently and spent a good hour winding them round nicely, making sure they were evenly spaced etc. Once I'd finished I switched them on to do a final check before putting the decs. They didn't work. Not just one set, two fucking sets had worked when I tested then failed by the time I'd finished. They were thrown in a pile in the corner and the tree stood bare for about a week until I could face getting new ones and attempting it again.
