Emetophobes, how are you coping?

Any fellow emetophobic people here? I just wondered how you are all coping with the hideous norovirus outbreak at the moment. I don’t think I have ever felt mentally worse and I have no idea how I’m going to get through the rest of this winter. This phobia is so cruel.

Which part of the country are you in? From my research it's specific areas that have outbreaks not country wide... I feel for you I am struggling too but just because it's winder and I have a four year old and work in a school.

I’m hanging in there. Both DC have been vomiting on and off for a fortnight now. It seems to come in two bouts - the first the acute vomiting phase, then a few days later some more vomiting but mostly at night. And it has a strange sweet smell. I’ve not succumbed yet, but I dread the middle of the night retching

Sherloidbaisherloid · 30/11/2019 13:59

Where is there an outbreak?

Iwillbemrsminty · 30/11/2019 14:01

Same as @foxatthewindow here. Both my twins (2y 11m) have had bad ear infections and have had episodes of vomiting and diarrhoea, interestingly also with a strange sweet smell. What's that about? I'm just manic cleaning to be honest, I use Clinnell wipes which kill noro. Dreading the days they go to nursery and literally count down the hours after possible exposure. Hate HATE this time of year Sad

foxatthewindow · 30/11/2019 14:06

@Iwillbemrsminty yes - it doesn’t smell like normal sick but I can describe it

Emetophobe · 30/11/2019 14:10

I’m in Cheshire. It’s rife in the large town about 5 miles away from me where I work but doesn’t seem to have hit my small town just yet, but it is so close that I know it will any time now.

This was me 5 years ago. I read a book (and worked through the programme properly) by Rob Kelly called "Cure your emetephobia and thrive" and now I am FULLY in control and things like this don't affect me anymore.

I never in a million years thought I would come out of the other side but I have.

Emetophobe · 30/11/2019 17:03

I own that book sd249. I was convinced that it was going to cure me but after 4 days it made me worse than ever before - full on dissociation, hallucinations etc. I have never been so mentally unwell. It’s a shame because I honestly thought it would work.

It’s grim isn’t it? I’ve literally just come onto MN to torture myself with Noro stories. I don’t know how I’m going to do the rest of the winter

Knucklehead101 · 30/11/2019 17:31

I’ve also just bought a box of 225 clinnel wipes from amazon thank you for the tip😳
