Dog bite .

Hi .
Despite having my own massive but very soft dog I managed to get bitten today by a neighbours hound.

I moved recently and took a parcel in for neighbours- was expecting them to call for it but when they didn't I took it to them - however they have a beagle that leapt up at their gate and took a chunk out of my hand . It's still bleeding hours later. I can't leave my own caring responsibility to go to a&e for tetanus. Doctors can't do it . I've doused it in dettol and put a plaster on it which needed changing this evening as had bled through. The owner said sorry. The came round to say sorry again and when he saw the damage came back with flowers. Owner is elderly and whilst I realise that I could report a dog dangerously out of control I don't t feel that would be right to do. Apparently it only bites if you're carrying a parcel. 🤷🏻‍♀️. Needless to say I won't be taking any more parcels for them .

I really can't leave my responsibilities to go get a tetanus shot - would you risk not having one?

No I wouldnt, I'd also want to get that looked at by a doctor, if it's bleeding that much it might need stitches, and could probably do with a good clean as dogbites are notorious for getting infected. Can you go tomorrow?

I was bitten once whilst out jogging. I went to a&e but didn’t want to waste their time so asked a paramedic who was parked outside and he said definitely get a tetanus shot, so I did. A&E didn’t have one so had to wait ages for them to find one.My bite broke the skin but wasn’t as bad as yours by the sound of it so I’d get seen.

I would advise you to go to A&E or MIU and get looked at properly. Although you have only recently moved, do you know a couple of people who could come to take over the caring and drive you there? Years ago a couple of friends did that for me - one stayed with the kids (they were asleep) and the other took me for medical attention (and they had a fair old drive in the middle of the night to get to me).

Ok thanks. I have arranged to go to miu tomorrow.

Please prioritise it - I know two people who have ended up with really nasty infections after animal bites - one dog and one cat. I hope you are ok and not too uncomfortable to sleep.

Well it looks like it may have broken the finger - I'm immune to tetanus but need antibiotics.
Finger so swollen today can't bend it . Got to return to a&e tomorrow for xrays . Quite shocked as it was so fast, they need a much higher gate .

Ouch. Hope you get it sorted soon. Don’t mess around with possible skin infections. Cellulitis and sepsis are not uncommon.
