Should I send her to nursery?

DD is nearly 2. 4 days a week she goes to her childminder. I an about to go full time at work so I need ther looked after on the 5th day but her childminder is not available.

Do I put her into a nursery on that day? I think that as she is a bit older now the busy nursery setting might do her some good. On the other hand, she loves the childminder setting, so I could find her a different childminder that day?

What would you do?

My DD’s nursery won’t take children for one day a week. It has to be at least two days. Otherwise it’s too long between sessions and they never really settle properly or form a good bond with their key worker. I’d split the week 3/2.

I'd find a nursery so that she gets to experience both.

Is there any flexibility in your job? If you can do compressed hours (roughly 8-6) then you could do full time work in 4 days, which might make it feasible to just stick with your current childminder.

You’ll struggle to find a nursery that will take her just for the one day, most are 2 days minimum. I’d go for a more even split between nursery and childminder if I were you, especially as you think she’ll benefit from the nursery setting anyway.

Thanks all. The nursery we have visited has said every child is different and some are perfectly happy one day a week so they happy to give it a trial.

I would do it, you may find your child may not like just one day though, some can't understand why they are somewhere once and a week is long for them to remember.

A friend split 3 day CM and 2 day nursery and that worked very well.

My dd went to nursery one day a week from the age of 13 mo and loved it. She used to run to her key worker. Give it a shot and see if it works for your dd.
