Why did you miss your flight?

Sitting at the British Embassy having missed my flight (due to no fault of my own Hmm ) .. wondering if anyone else has had any awful 'missing their flight experiences' to make me feel any better Blush Also how long did it take you to get your emergency documents? Would like to know how long i could possibly have to be waiting to get another flight home. And also whether you had to pay for your new flight home if you missed your scheduled one due to losing your passport? Please be honest too hehe, thanks.

I fly a lot with work and miraculously haven’t missed a flight. I was very close once due to a smash on the M25. By the time I got there - red faced and dishevelled - the check in desks were shut. Luckily it was a business class ticket so they checked me in. However, I’d had to ditch the car in short stay.... for two weeks. That was painful.

Another time my boss booked flights to the wrong place and we ended up in Arona when we should have been in Ancona! Whoops

I had a close call. We were on a group holiday (10 of us) in Austria. The hotel was in a village which had a by pass. The coach driver picking us up to take us back to the airport did the pick up before ours, sped down the bypass to the hotel after ours and totally forgot about our party. The hotel hurriedly booked us a taxi and we made it to the airport by the skin of our teeth.

I found out the hard way that two hours and 15 minutes isn’t enough time between flights when they are both international, unrelated flights and connecting through Gatwick.

This came about because I needed to get from Grenoble in France to Innsbruck in Austria and connecting back through Gatwick seemed the easiest way. Flight 1 was with Easyjet and flight 2 with BA which meant I had to collect my luggage, go through immigration and the. Check in my luggage.

Of course there was snow at Grenoble airport (which is already a zoo during ski season) so everything was massively delayed and to top it all off our plane had some kind of non dangerous engine fault which meant they couldn’t turn the heating on while we wet3 waiting for an age on the tarmac so we were all sitting on the plane with ski jackets, gloves and beanies while the snow was swirling in through the open plane door.

Of course I missed flight 2, despite my best efforts (I was THAT person that rushed to the front of the plane as soon as possible once it landed) but the gate was the furthest at Gatwick from the main part of the terminal
with the bridge that goes over the runway. I was doomed really. I will say though that Gatwick Immigration was miles better than Heathrow and I got through there in record time (Australian passport so couldn’t use e-gates).

At least Gatwick one of the best places to be if you need a new, cheap flight to Innsbruck and a hotel room for the night Smile
