I was bought one last year as a present and other than asking it to make rude noises I haven't really used it.

What do you use yours for?

Talking clock, alarm clock, reminders, playing musicX listening to the radio, playing my audible books, special free audible books every month, anything else I would google!

stucknoue · 27/11/2019 18:59

Alarm clock mostly upstairs, cooking timer downstairs and playing the radio, time check and weather check of course

jcoc147 · 27/11/2019 19:00

My teenage son has one and uses it to stream his music through. I take great delight in walking past it and asking it to play cheesy songs such as the birdie song/Macarena etc just to see the look on his face when he is trying to listen to grime music and it starts belting out whatever I have requested 😂

charliesp · 27/11/2019 19:00

To turn the radio on. That's about it. Bit of a waste in our household.

sleepismysuperpower1 · 27/11/2019 19:01

i tell her to:

set a timer
add things to my shopping list, and then look at it on the alexa app
play music
tell me the weather forecast

Alloalloallo · 27/11/2019 19:01

Cooking timer, making it bark to annoy the dog.

Sometimes use it for music

WisestIsShe · 27/11/2019 19:03

Playing music, listening to the radio, setting timers for the oven or cups of tea, adding things to the shopping list, playing musical statues, telling jokes, news headlines.

Xanadu58 · 27/11/2019 19:05

Radio, alarm, timers, reminders, shopping list, weather, time , general knowledge questions, quiz(question of the day) , music , animal sounds, nursery rhymes for my granddaughter when she's here, calculator, spelling. I'm sure there's more but cant think of any at the moment.

Undercoverworker06 · 27/11/2019 19:06

It's set up to give the weather report and latest news, plus anything on my calendar today and tomorrow when I tell it I'm up. It's connected to my smart plug so I can turn the kettle on from my bed in the morning. I listen to the radio with it.
I've got Alexa upstairs, Google home downstairs, it's great.

poppy289 · 27/11/2019 19:06

Music, shopping lists and turning a lamp on. I have them at work and we speak to each other through them.

Pimmsypimms · 27/11/2019 19:07

We have a google home mini. The only thing I use it for is to set a timer for the oven. Dh uses it for playing his Spotify, that's about it!

Xanadu58 · 27/11/2019 19:07

You can ask it to toss a coin or roll a dice . Ask it whats on tv that day

Lunafortheloveogod · 27/11/2019 19:07

We use her for music, timer, lights.. summoning dp if he falls asleep on the sofa when we’re already in bed.. she doesn’t need to shout from upstairs. Yapping like yoda too.. and white noise for ds when he was smaller. She talks to the tv though.. must watch she doesn’t order crap.

Kathulu · 27/11/2019 19:08

To activate lights, alarm clocks, timer, weather, news, audiobooks, shopping lists, recipes. Loads of stuff really. My in laws always phone us when drunk asking daft questions so we've bought them one that they can talk to instead of us 😂

Nottobesoldseparately · 27/11/2019 19:09

I bought it for DH but it's me that mainly uses it.

For playing music, it's on now doing just that. I love my music.

I thought DH would use it more but we kind of forget it can do a load more stuff.

My niece loves it for music too and she takes great delight in asking her to play random stuff then dancing to it, so for that alone it's worth every penny!

spacepyramid · 27/11/2019 19:09

A doorstop. We used to use it a lot but haven't for ages, I was going to ask it who father xmas was the other day after a thread on here but couldn't find the mains lead for it.

LynetteScavo · 27/11/2019 19:11

DD uses her as an alarm clock, for music, and to tell her the answers to her maths homework.

Haffdonga · 27/11/2019 19:16

Just now I made a cake and wanted to add a third to the quantities in the recipe. Alexa did the maths for me, then she timed the oven all while playing me music (and then the radio).

Haffdonga · 27/11/2019 19:19

Shopping lists are useful.
Alexa put cat food on the shopping list.

It goes on a list in your Alexa app on your phone.

Marigold101 · 27/11/2019 19:20

For those that have her in the bedroom can you control the light band thingy around the outside? I've got a dot and unplug it. I've googled and googled but can find how to!

Margotshypotheticaldog · 27/11/2019 19:21

For spying and gathering data.

Margotshypotheticaldog · 27/11/2019 19:24

😂

Alexa- what do you use it for?
Drogonssmile · 27/11/2019 19:35

I put it on a timer in the morning. When it goes off DS1 gets dressed for school after yelling "ALEXA, STOP!" At the top of his voice. Does the job better than me nagging.

bobstersmum · 27/11/2019 19:55

We have her set so that by saying good morning or goodnight to her she turns on /off all lights and TV.

Pippapotomus · 27/11/2019 19:56

Alarm for in the morning, she tells me the news and weather. She adds things to a shopping list, sets reminders and plays me music for most of the day. She puts LBC on the radio for dog when everyone is out.
DD plays the games and DS makes her fart, a lot.
