Which are in Copenhagen (hotel)?

Hi

I’m going to Copenhagen on my own for a few days, for the Christmas Markets. Never been before & was just wondering where abouts is the best area to stay to walk back at night on my own.

I know it’s generally considered a safe city, and I’ve travelled a lot, but I was in Cologne a few years ago when the rape/abuse attacks happened and I’d just like to be somewhere not too isolated because I want to feel I can enjoy the evenings without worrying about getting back.

Bloody menopause (and cologne attacks I guess) I never would have worried much in the past!

If anyone can help that would be great. Thanks.

Another vote for the Admiral.

BestOption · 28/11/2019 13:38

Thanks everyone.

@AnnaMagnani. Yes, they are very good points!

Now, tell me, very importantly how does the glugen compare to the glühwein??

Any places that I shouldn’t miss or food I need to try (vegetarian) etc?

@BestOption - fine to go to Christiania I think. Maybe don't take photos of people or their houses ... Have a wonderful time. I didn't go alone last year, but absolutely would. A lovely city. Clean, safe, interesting. I'm vegetarian - it was fine (not fabulous though ...). Best meal was an open sandwich somewhere ... I'll try and remember where.

I wouldn't stay near Tivoli, that's not my favourite part of Copenhagen I don't think. Very touristy and a bit rough.

Nyhavn is nice. We were in Copenhagen a couple of weeks ago, and stayed near the meat packing district (can't remember the name of the hotel). There's lots of bars there but it'snot crowded or dodgy. The cool area is Norrebro.

Rankellior · 28/11/2019 23:21

Another vote for Admiral. Or the scandic front which is next door. Also Babette looked good although never stayed there. All of them very easy walking distance to centre

Undecidedsofa · 28/11/2019 23:26

I’ve stayed at The Kong Arthur, too.
I really liked it & felt very safe.
Loved doing the walking tour.
Christiania is fabulous...for info, it is often recommended not to take photos there though
You’ll love it- beautiful city , and glædelig jul.

jcurve · 29/11/2019 06:43

Hotel Skt. Petri is great and is close to the Xmas markets.

Fl1mF1am · 29/11/2019 07:36

We stayed in the student area near the Round Tower. Really lovely. Oldest bakery, dop van, nice book shop, felt v safe.

I’d avoid Christiana big time. Not a nice atmosphere quite threatening, pusher alley and stoned people. My teens still haven’t forgiven us for taking them there.

Go to Louisiana by train if you can. It’s gorgeous and v easy.

LuckyAmy1986 · 29/11/2019 08:46

I would definitely recommend Plaza Copenhagen. Right by the main train station, across the street from Tivoli Gardens, and even better it has a The Library Bar in it, which is quite famous I believe And was on a worlds best bars list, they have live Jazz and the best cocktails!

unknownn · 29/11/2019 09:50

I'm going to Copenhagen alone on Monday. for the same reasons! Glad you posted this thread OP!

BestOption · 01/12/2019 15:45

@unknownn

Me too! So many choices now!!

Where are you staying?

@LuckyAmy1986 - the library bar is on my ‘must do’ list 🍾🥂

@Fl1mF1am. Interesting. You’re the first person to have said that. That’s more what I was thinking it would be like, but others have said it’s not 🤷🏻‍♀️ I now have a friend joining me for a couple of the days, so we might go together then. Do you remember the name of the place you stayed? I would like to go to Louisiana, but I’ll have to see how things go (if I have a spare day).

We were in an apartment near St Peders Bakery( the oldest bakery), the Latin Quarter.

Loopytiles · 01/12/2019 16:02

Public transport is excellent there, we stayed ten mins outside in Air BnB.

Here is some more info about. There is a serious case of emperor’s new clothes about Christiana imvho. Didn’t feel safe and didn’t enjoy our time there at all. It’s quite a way out too.

Fl1mF1am · 01/12/2019 16:06

Most people I know who’ve been didn’t like it,each to their own however going by your op I’d give it a miss.

BestOption · 01/12/2019 16:53

@fl1mf1am

Interesting article, thank you!

Lots of nice looking hotels recommended -thank you all!! The Admiral looks nice, but it’s a bit more ££ than I need to pay this time. It’s supposed to just be a quick, cheapish, few days at the markets & I’m not intending to spend much time in the room. I’d definitely look at booking at the Admiral another time. Maybe even in the summer.

This time ive booked the Christian 1V in a twin room with my friend for the weekend, then just myself at the Wake Up Copenhagen for a couple of nights.

I read a damning report about the Christmas Markets, so I hope they’re ok 🥴 I hope unknown posts when she gets back!

Thanks again all! 🍷

Food was very expensive, loved the bakeries!

Herocomplex · 01/12/2019 17:02

One of the nicest markets is up in Helsingor in the Kronborg Slot. It’s about 40 mins on the S train up the coast.

The smørrebrød at Aamans is very good, but you’ll need to book a table. Definitely go to Torvelhallerne, it’s a food hall, with loads of delicious food and drink, very convivial.

OneFootintheRave · 01/12/2019 17:06

I also stayed at Wakeup Boregard last month. Good value and very central. Good breakfast. Cheaper was Cabin City but that's a bit further out. Still safe but not as central.

SapphosRock · 01/12/2019 18:54

I stayed at Wakeup Copenhagen, Borgergade. It's central, near Kongens Nytorv, and really rather nice.

Me too. Stayed here loads of times. It's basic but very central. The breakfast isn't great so I would go elsewhere (MJ coffee 2 mins walk away is nice) and if you like sushi the Sushi place next door is lovely.

BestOption · 02/12/2019 03:37

@Herocomplex I hadn’t seen that market anywhere, so I’ll definitely put that on my list too - thank you.

It’s good to have a few more ‘live’ reviews. Of WUC. Basic & central is fine. I didn’t think to ask about the aircon? I’m a furnace and need to be able to make the room really cool. I hope that’s going to be possible in winter.

I’m planning to eat at the Markets mostly but thank you for those, They both look good on their websites! I really like the sound of your description if Torvelhallern!

@SapphosRock coffee 2 mins away sounds perfect! ☕️😊I’m infinitely nicer to be around once I’ve had a good coffee! I only very occasionally have sushi as I’m vegetarian and it’s usually not that great, but I’ll check it out as good veg sushi is lovely.

I definitely won’t be having breakfast there. I’ll be walking up an appetite for things at the market or failing that nice delis & bakeries. I normally eat keto, so if I’m off plan with food it needs to be worth it 🤣

@Loopytiles - yes, I imagine I’ll be haemorrhaging cash 😢.
