Norovirus???

Likely TMI here but has anyone been struck with a Noro type illness? Friday I felt a bit off colour then suddenly in the evening was violently sick several times with a headache and then whole body ached all over with legs and arms feeling like dead weights.

I think I am recovering now but not fully right.

Our whole town has an outbreak of it at the moment, schools closed with it. It's awful

Where about safe you Hayley. Southampton here.

It was how sudden it came out that was scary. Also the runs too both ends!

Keep washing hands & use hand sanitizer frequently.

Designate each person with their own plate/bowl/cup/cutlery.
Wipe door handles, bleach and disinfect toilets & other places where people would pass germs by touch or bodily fluids.
Isolate anyone who has the virus to prevent it spreading.
If V&D - keep hydrated with small sips of water.

Schools hve been closed in my area. It's horrendous apparently tlaltoughg touchwood, we have escaped so far! I hope you feel better soon

Insomniacscientist · 25/11/2019 20:20

Hand sanitizer does not help for norovirus. Only hand washing helps

Thegreymethod · 25/11/2019 20:26

Same as @hayley013 it's flying through our schools so much that some have had to close, 11 children is my daughters class had it last week we (touch wood) have managed to avoid it so far but hope it passes for you soon because it sounds awful.

beminetonight · 25/11/2019 20:39

@Insomniacscientist Our local Hospital has norovirus & has signs everywhere to use the hand sanitizer. It has alcohol in it. Would that not kill the germs? I was virtually bathing in the stuff during my last visit thinking it would protect me against getting noro. Shock

NannyR · 25/11/2019 20:44

Hand sanitiser only kills bacteria, it doesn't have any effect on viruses. Viruses need to be removed by handwashing with soap and hot water.

TabbyStar · 25/11/2019 20:47

My DF's hospital ward had norovirus, we were told it was airborne anyway so even washing hands was limited protection. We didn't get it though.

Insomniacscientist · 25/11/2019 21:06

@beminetonight hand sanitizer only has a minimal if any effect on noro. It can be used to supplement a hand washing routine but it is not a substitute. My username is misleading it was something I learned on a presentation on a cruise ship!

Insomniacscientist · 25/11/2019 21:07

In not on grrrr

Pinkstars2501 · 25/11/2019 21:25

Oh god, I had this one year, started Christmas Eve...
Completely out of nowhere. Never felt so ill in my life! It awful, I couldn't even keep sips of water down. After the tsunami of bodily fluids ended, it still took a while for me to feel 100%. It wiped me out.

treedragon · 25/11/2019 23:07

Seems to be spreading about then
