Is this a scam? - royal mail

Just received a text saying “your Royal Mail parcel is waiting for delivery. Please confirm the settlement of £2.99(GBP) by clicking on the following link: https:bit.ly......”
I have several parcels waiting to be delivered as it’s that time of year but as far as I know I’ve paid the delivery when placing the orders. Thoughts?

I'm pretty certain Royal Mail still just leave cards... Why would they have your mobile number? Sounds very fishy!

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 25/11/2019 17:06

Scam, royal mail only use cards through the door

Andypromqueen · 25/11/2019 17:07

Thanks - I think it’s dodgy too - I’m not going to respond. Wonder if anyone else has had one of these?

And I don't think you can pay by internet either, certainly not to a website that doesn't seem to have anything to do with Royal mail.

MoaningMinniee · 25/11/2019 17:09

I wonder if it's the latest development from the scammy scammers who have realised most people have now heard about the Amazon Prime one?

Herocomplex · 25/11/2019 17:10

Could be, I would google Royal Mail scam?

Herocomplex · 25/11/2019 17:11

And yes, how would they have your mobile number?

frankie001 · 25/11/2019 17:12

It’s Wales but exactly the same as yours.

Herocomplex · 25/11/2019 17:14

Wow, there’s a whole page of them on the RM site! Under ‘personal help’. I’m going to let all my gullible relatives know, thanks for highlighting!

Andypromqueen · 25/11/2019 17:16

I’ve just googled which led me to the Royal Mail website and yes it’s deffo a scam - says they would never ask for money via text/email. It’s scary because it’s texted to my iPhone ,which obvs has my card details stored in it so I guess just by simply pressing on the link they could empty my bank account!! This is why I hate having to put my mobile phone no in every time I want to order something for delivery updates. Scammers can obvs get hold of it and it’s impossible to know how or from which website.

Thank you everyone.

Thoughts ?

The most annoying word on here in this context.

It's bollocks. The RM do not charge for you to collect your parcel. That does not exist btw Hmm

Albern · 25/11/2019 20:03

I had one of these texts. Definitely a scam .

MistyCloud · 25/11/2019 20:24

Bumping. Thanks for this @Andypromqueen I will bear this SCAM in mind, as I have sent for 5 or 6 parcels from ebay and amazon, so could have been caught out by this!

We all think we can't be scammed as we're too cute, smart, clever, savvy etc etc, but it can happen to anyone, especially if you are not expecting it!

KRRA · 25/11/2019 20:31

Hi I can confirm it is a scam, I work for Royal Mail

Batters2015 · 25/11/2019 20:36

My husband is a postie and they would never do this, if postage is underpaid by the send you will receive a grey fee to pay card before an item is released. For peace of mind you could nip to where you collect your items but don't use any links until your 100% certain as 9/10 they are scams

Whiteroverbaby · 25/11/2019 20:39

Yes it's a scam

Thifty1 · 25/11/2019 21:22

Report it to R M.They need to know- it's (attempted) fraud.

MidnightBlue28 · 25/11/2019 21:32

www.royalmail.com/digital-delivery-notifications

I’ve had texts from them twice in two weeks for a parcel coming from the USA... didn’t ask for any customs fees or excess postage, just let me know it had passed customs and entered their delivery chain

Starlord1966 · 25/11/2019 21:32

Yes it is a scam. Would suggest in future that if people need to know if something is s scam then maybe they should just Google a few key words i.e. 'royal mail, parcel, scam' to get the answer.

Blonton · 25/11/2019 21:47

I work for royal mail.i can assure you THIS IS A SCAM.Royal mail will only leave a card. There have been a growing number of these scams being reported and Royal mail and the police do investigate and shut them down.if you are ever in doubt, ring your local delivery office and ask them if you have parcels waiting.

Misspierre1930 · 25/11/2019 23:55

If you have ordered something from abroad then you would pay import tax? Royal mail text me when my package is on the way, day or not been delivered? I would maybe phone royal mail and confirm this as your package will sit in the depot until its settled

bgd00 · 25/11/2019 23:58

Yes a scam.

bit.ly sites are premium sites where you can make money for piracy. Avoid anything bit.ly! Not always a scam but often trojans, viruses or just pure rubbish.

I am a software tester and have never clicked anything bit.ly ever!

Redcherries · 25/11/2019 23:58

I do get texts from Royal Mail but only to tell me they are delivering parcels. I had a customs charge recently which was a card through the door and payment on the official website.
