I want to get a new 49/50” tv. But the terms freessat/freeview/Smart tv/4K are all leaving me confused. I want a tv that’ll last me years that isn’t really pricey but has current technology. Please help me make sense of this!! What is it I need?

Dunno!

What do you watch? Sky? Virgin? Digital TV? Netflix? Amazon? Now tV? IPlayer etc etc

Whatever you pick personally I would ignore the smart TV stuff and get a fire stick instead. Smart TV won’t last you years, the apps will go end of life and stop being supported after 3-5 where as a fire stick will be supported much longer or be upgraded in the future.

Ah right. Thanks for that. I thought I needed smart tv. I really am clueless. I have sky and watch Netflix through that. But as soon as my contract is up With sky I am bailing on it but will keep Netflix and would like to get amazon prime too.

I would like to get a tv that I could record onto pause forward etc. Does this exist?

I have a smart tv with built in freesat and I think it's better than Freeview. Our tv has 'apps' and they're dead easy to flick between and Netflix is one, as is now tv, so we don't have any external boxes to clutter up the area. That means we no longer have a DVD player but with the streaming services we have, we didn't feel we needed one.
Ours is a Samsung 49", wall mounted. I'd buy it again!

Freesat requires a sat dish but if you have sky I'm sure it's compatible.

Had Freesat abroad..it's brilliant. Got all the UK channels, and the ones like 5USA (NCIS groupie). Now back in the UK, and will probably go with Freesat. Had Freeview last time and it kept cutting out, but that's due to geographical constraints as opposed to anything else.
