Looking for a bit of inspiration for DS (6 and a half, in Year 2). We've read a few David Walliams books. DS wants to read Harry Potter but I'm not sure if he's still a bit young for it.

What books do your 6 year olds love?

On his own my DS reads the 13 Story Treehouse series, some Tom Gates and his Beanos mostly.

Together we’ve been enjoying The Twits.
I tried The Sheep Pig but he wasn’t into it.

At the minute he’s very keen on the Winnie and Wilbur picture books.

Recently, he’s also enjoyed the Project X Alien Adventure books, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

We’ve read all the Roadl Dahl books recently. Currently reading The Hobbit, but not sure how much she is taking in.

Currently reading the second Lightning Girl book. Other recent successes have been The Hobbit and the first 3 Harry Potter books (we also read the 4th one but 6yo dd2 lost interest a bit). Planning to read The Animals of Farthing Wood next, I think.

Ds has enjoyed the Middle School series, Mr Gum, Flat Stanley, all the David Baddiel books but he mostly reads his Beano comics...over and over again!

Oh and he still loves the Mr men and little miss books.

I've suggested HP but he's not interested, not fussed by David Walliams either Confused

Thanks all! Will have a look in the library for some of the titles suggested.

Gobbolino, for the second time at his request. Before that we read all of Jill Tomlinson's animal books- The Penguin who wanted to find out etc. And Stuart Little.
Books about talking animals seems to be the thing just now.

The Christmasaurus books

We're coming to the end of the first Harry potter book. Dd2 is 6 almost 7 and we previously tried but she wasn't too keen, but she is really enjoying it. This year we have read, Matilda, The Witches, George's Marcellus medicine, the BFG that I can remember. Both dd's love the tree house books, diary of a wimpy kid, isadora Moon, Winnie and Wilbur chapter books, and a few Enid Blyton including Naughty Amelia Jane, and The magic faraway tree series.

Dd1 loves comics and always chooses some from the library. Beano/bart simpson etc.

I've previously read him the first few Harry Potter and he lived them. We've also done the 13 storey treehouse series and loads of David Walliams- currently on Demon Dentist. He's reading the Twits himself.

MinnieMountain · 24/11/2019 15:53

Having read all of Roald Dahl's books at least 4 times, we're working our way through The Famous Five books.

He's also really enjoyed the Paddington stories.

Atticus The Storyteller went down well too.

MinnieMountain · 24/11/2019 15:56

For shorter books: Meg and Mog, anything by Judith Kerr, Mr Men, Enid Blyton.

Second Gobbolino - we’ve just finished the first one and it was a hit. Also loved the Faraway Tree, and now on the secret seven plus Milly Molly Mandy. Also loves an Usborne Greek Myth for children when we are short on time.
