Hobbies

I was asked the other day what my hobbies are.
I don't have any and never have.I like reading and gardening (in warmer weather) but no real interest in anything that could be labeled a hobby .
My DD has no hobbies either. Are we missing something or are there others out there who feel the same.

I'd say both of those are hobbies. People dont think of reading as a hobby as there's a myth everyone does it, but actually, probably more people cycle than read more than 6 books a year.

Gardening definitely counts.

I have hobbies (knitting, sewing, photography and editing photos) but they're not all consuming. I do them when I can be bothered really. I'm fact, I suppose they're more pastimes than hobbies.

I don't think you're missing anything if you feel happy and fulfilled without them.

I just felt a bit judged when I said I had no hobbies ,as if I was lacking something. They looked surprised.

yeah but better to have no hobbies than have hobbies because you think you should have them. For a lot of people hobbies have just become another thing they feel they need to do to meet the minimum requirements for a ‘successful person’.

Reading and gardening ARE hobbies.

Reading is escapism.
What actually counts as a hobby?
I love gardening and growing stuff but not enough to clear the garden in this wet ,dreary weather .

Aren't hobbies about escapism? Different ways to use your mind, or let it relax.

I would class both reading and gardening as hobbies. I think a hobby is whatever you enjoy doing in your non working time, it doesn't have to involve belonging to a club, going to a class etc . Most hobbies are escapism really. They are what we do to brighten our lives and get away from the mundane for a while.

Reading and gardening are definitely hobbies. You dont need to be gardening every day of the year for it to be a hobby!

I say reading is one of my hobbies and I read 95% fanfic. Grin Still counts!
