How to counteract Night Nurse?

JammyGem · 23/11/2019 11:55

I've got a really horrible cold at the moment which seems to have knocked me for six. It's also seriously affected my thinking as I took two pills of what I thought was Day Nurse but have just realised are the Night Nurse ones.

It usually knocks me right out and I'll be dead to the world within half hour, but I'm fighting it as I'm home alone with my near one year old DD and worry about falling asleep. She's having a nap in her cot at the moment just in case. Is there some way of counteracting the drowsiness? Will I just have to ride it out? Feeling like a shit mum for stupidly not paying enough attention to which one I was taking...

Can anyone come over to help while you sleep

DeadCucumber · 23/11/2019 12:00

Try couple of coffees or a red bull? Do some cleaning, try be up rather than sitting down.

JammyGem · 23/11/2019 12:04

No one nearby unfortunately.

I've had a coffee but it doesn't seem to have any effect. Trying to avoid sitting down but honestly I was already feeling terrible before I took it so I'm struggling to stay on my feet constantly now!

I'm so stupid.

Red bull

Nap while she is and set an alarm so you'll wake up after an hour or so? Might feel better then.

NabooThatsWho · 23/11/2019 12:06

Go outside and get fresh air might help? A cool shower?

ZeroFuchsGiven · 23/11/2019 12:08

I don't think going outside or a cool shower will help her feel any better!

JumpyLiz · 23/11/2019 12:09

Go for a walk. You aren’t going to drop to sleep whilst walking.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 23/11/2019 12:10

Caffeine now then nap as DD does - hopefully the caffeine will kick in by the time you get up with DD

Inebriati · 23/11/2019 12:15

If you took a double dose and are looking after kids, then phone 111.

Northernlurker · 23/11/2019 12:18

I think you need to get some help. There must be somebody who can help. Can you put a message on Facebook or other SM just saying you're not well and can anybody spare you some time?

JingsMahBucket · 23/11/2019 13:16

Why don’t you just go to sleep for a bit with your alarm for the next hour or two? You’d likely feel much better for resting.

MySonThePotato · 23/11/2019 13:22

I would put your child in a safe place, like a cot or playpen, so if you fall asleep she won't come to harm.

PollyShelby · 23/11/2019 20:32

How are you OP?

Sparklingbrook · 23/11/2019 20:35

I took Night Nurse tablets the other week and was wide awake all night. Had worse sleep than if I hadn't taken them. Someone said the ingredient that knocks you out has been removed. Don't know if that's true.

Frownette · 23/11/2019 21:28

Doesn't work on me either. Feel a bit better now jammy?

MinnieMountain · 23/11/2019 22:44

In my recent (very specific) experience, it works for a juddery sleeper train but not peri-menopausal insomnia.

JammyGem · 23/11/2019 23:38

So I fell asleep, no surprise. Only for a couple of hours but it helped massively. Was able to get on looking after DD, and she seemed pleased to have an extra long nap!
