Can I ask what job you do with your Physics degree?

DS is in his third year and has been accepted for his Masters. All smashing and I was just wondering where a degree in Physics might take him.

He's not asking btw, this is just me wondering.

Anyone?

I forgot the ones who stayed in academia!

Professor of Optics
Professor of Bioinformatics (your guess is a good as mine)
Catalyst research
Nanotechnology research
Computer aided engineering

DD graduated in Theoretical Physics this summer (decided against doing her Masters, which was the original plan) and is doing bespoke software development but also got offered trainee accountancy jobs.

Totally forgot I almost ended up at the patent office! Also applied for jobs with the met office and AWE.

I also know someone who's gone on to work in government.

Now I'm wondering if my vicar's wife married your vicar, BarbaraStrozzi.

The school I work in is desperate for physics teachers!

MaidenMotherCrone · 23/11/2019 18:07

Thank you all for replying. Wow so many physicists and a great variety of careers.

This is fascinating reading. I made a very last minute decision between physics and medicine. Reading this, I almost wish I'd done physics, so many exciting careers!

I also know a vicar's wife who has a physics degree....

ILikTheBred · 23/11/2019 18:35

I went into finance - qualified as a chartered accountant and worked in corporate finance for an energy company. Most of my class mates (we graduated 20 years ago) went into IT in some shape or form, with a number becoming actuaries or working for investment banks. One became a journalist!

Meteorology :)

BarbaraStrozzi · 23/11/2019 20:04

Lancelottie - my vicar is married to a very nice gentleman, so I doubt it! Grin
