How to trust timber surveyor?

We need someone to investigate uneven floor under a carpet to see if there is any timber damage. The problem is that most companies who do this also offer the remedial work. How can you tell whether to trust a company? Aren't they likely to always say there is problem so that they get more work?

Appoint an independent building surveyor. If you go onto the RICS website there is a 'find a surveyor' section. I would advise against using a specialist timber company unless your problem has been diagnosed by an independent as they have a vested interest in you having a problem they can fix.
