Very mild chicken pox - maybe! - wwyd?

Ds is 2 and was definitely exposed to cp at nursery. Last weekend he had a fever and a mild rashy look to his skin on face and torso. Just red patches basically.

He came out with spots after his fever broke, but only a few on his face and one on his back. These inexplicably disappeared after a day or so, with one spot in his face getting pus-filled and possibly itchy because he kept rubbing at it. He stopped messing with it once it scabbed over.

He's been congested as well, and generally a bit miserable, though now he's coming out the other side for sure.

Could this have been a mild case of cp? The gp refused to see him so I couldn't be sure.

I'm wondering if he has high chances of getting it again, if it was so mild this time around? Thinking of vaccinating him just in case.

Any thoughts welcome.

More likely it’s hand foot and mouth but hard to tell without a pic.

You can get chickenpox that has mild symptoms but that doesn’t mean the person who had it isn’t protected. It’s a bit like a cold - some people can feel really unwell whereas others are just a bit sniffly.

My 18 month old son gets this quite a lot since he started nursery. He gets a cold and then all these spots appear then two days and they are gone. It's happened three time the GP just says it's a common viral infection

The rash could just be viral due to his high temp. Chicken pox are more like blisters and I would imagine he would have more than 1, even if it was a mild case.

There's a lot of viruses around! DS had a stinking sore throat (All the drool and not keen to swallow but fine to bite), a rashy chin (Probably drool plus existing slight food sensitivity) and fever followed by spotty (but not blistery) rash everywhere. We now reckon slapped cheek but who knows.

There are bloody millions of the things most of which seem to come from where children interact!

Strange for a gp to turn down seeing them if your unsure. Chickenpox is one of the things my gp makes it known they need on the records for whatever reason. Especially if they're young and won't remember when asked.

From my experience it may well be chicken pox. I have 4 kids and they each had only very mild symptoms. The first still had about 60 spots, the second only 20, the third only 5 and the youngest only 1 or 2. I´ve noted it down in their health books but there is no need to see a doctor. I think that it is helpful if record it (either yourself or via gp) as getting it later in life comes with certain risks.
