Who have you had excellent customer service from?

There was a thread recently about recently awful customer service that people have received, so I thought it would be nice to turn the table and share some examples of excellent customer service.

I have a mortgage with Newcastle Building Society and they have never been less than brilliant. Every time I phone up I get through to an actual person and they are always friendly and helpful and you can tell that they actually know what they are talking about rather than reading it off a screen.

Recently (without going into too much detail!) they really helped me out with an issue that would have cost me several hundred pounds. Totally went above and beyond!

Asda, I was ill a few months ago outside, they got me a drink and took me into the back to wait for ambulance, they were so kind and caring and I wint forget it.

Great idea for a thread @IToldYouIWasFreaky

Mine is Apple. About three years ago, my youngest DS (then 7) managed to spend £835 on Minecraft in one sitting the week before Christmas. Wholly our fault because we weren't supervising properly/hadn't set up the permissions properly. Nonetheless, they refunded it without question. Really did save Christmas that year as I had just left my job. I get a bit teary just thinking about it. Apparently, their system should have stopped it before it got to anything like that amount, but I just think we were very, very lucky. Loyal customer ever since!

GoKartMozart · 22/11/2019 16:06

And another for First Direct. Sorted out DH's card cloning instantly and when mine was done they actually stopped my card before a penny came out. Been with them since about 93 and would never change.

The toy company Russ. I'd emailed them after finding out they sold a Raggedy Anne in the USA. It was my childhood toy and I had a Raggedy Andy missing his soulmate. Not only did they source me one but they sent her, free of charge.
My Dad had brought them back for me from the USA initially as a child and he'd not long died when they sent her to me. Many tears were shed that day.

Sketchers. DS's new trainers started coming to bits a couple of months after buying them. I took them back to the shop without a receipt more in hope than anticipation and they gave me a brand new pair no questions asked and threw in a free pack of socks for the inconvenience. They were so helpful.

SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy · 22/11/2019 16:22

Also my DPD man - he's so nice and very reliable and actually phones me and asks if he should try and leave my parcel at my SIL's (who lives down the road) if it needs a signature and I'm not in

Hippee · 22/11/2019 16:30

Northern Gas Networks dug up our road recently. They were absolutely brilliant with information and helpful when the gas was switched off. Every member of staff I spoke to went above and beyond.

The Co-op - our local stores all have really lovely staff. And when I bought my cooker from them, there was a cock-up with the delivery times and they couldn't do enough to put it right.

JohnCRaven · 22/11/2019 18:06

Our local Royal Mail postie. Saw me walking down the main road and delivered it straight to me so I didn't have to wait in for it when he got to my road.

Cheeky Wipes. Very friendly and helpful when I needed advice.

Dreams. We didn't end up buying from them but they were super helpful and knowledgeable. Wished we had because we had problems with the mattress we did buy.

Our local cafe. Only been in a few times since it opened but they remembered my order and made sure it was how I wanted it.

Galt. Was given an accessories box with a missing piece. Sent a whole new box the next day.

breakfastpizza · 22/11/2019 18:18

We've had the opposite from Amazon this week and have closed our account with them.*

Ugh, same. And I know two other people who had 'computer says no' type experiences in the past year. I think their golden age of customer service is coming to an end.

Delatron · 22/11/2019 19:20

First Direct are great. I wouldn’t switch banks now. Nice to get through and speak to someone.

Amazon are amazing. I ordered a new Garmin. The parcel was switched and I received caneston cream! Called and they sent a new one the next day with no quibble. Amazing. Think they need to investigate some of their delivery drivers though.

John Lewis are always good.

Whatsmyageagain0 · 22/11/2019 19:31

Tesco’s customer service is brilliant.

Thisnamechanger · 22/11/2019 19:33

The Train Line. They're really patient when you accidentally book your train in the wrong direction TWICE while pissed Grin

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/11/2019 19:38

@Hepsibar that’s quite specific! Did the ironmonger used to be in Taunton as well? I’m sure I recognise the name.

Chocolatethief · 22/11/2019 20:04

Another one costa was there the other day and they were so friendly I ordered white hot chocolate with caramel and he told me that it was really good with vanilla and asked me of I had had it I said no so he said if I wanted he would make me it and if I didn't like it would replace it will caramel for free, it was absolutely lovely.

Imyellingtimber · 22/11/2019 21:14

Costa have always been wonderful when bfing children. Table service included.

Clevs · 22/11/2019 21:23

Thomas Cook - I got stranded in Egypt in 2010 when the Icelandic volcano erupted. Thomas Cook put me up in the Hilton all inclusive for three days until flights were allowed back into the UK.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 22/11/2019 21:26

Amazon, rarely an issue and they very quickly resolve when it happens. Males life so much easier to have a good online store for most needs.

AdaFromYorkshire · 22/11/2019 22:13

NatWest were amazing at sorting out complicated accounts of my aunt after she died, the local staff couldn't have been kinder or more efficient.

Our DPD driver deserves an award for unfailing cheerfulness and reliability. I need to email head office to tell them.

My GP surgery who have gone far beyond their duties when DH and DD have been ill.

Josef Seibel shoes. I recently placed an online order late one afternoon. My shoes arrived before lunch the next day - I hadn't paid for speedy delivery.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 22/11/2019 22:27

Another vote for First Direct. We've been customers of theirs since the 1990s and they've never been anything but brilliant. I think their business model is spot on - effectively a call centre but with the 'phone answered by a real, polite and helpful person and with no ridiculous 'phone menus to choose from. I really rate them.

UnicornPug · 22/11/2019 23:22

Playmobil. I bought my kids a Noah’s ark for Christmas one year and putting it together (a week or so beforehand!) I realised one of the elephants only had 3 legs. I dropped them an email, saying my elephants didn’t match and they got back to me very quickly and promised a replacement.
I got a parcel the next day containing..... a 3 legged elephant. Honestly, I laughed til I cried. The Noah’s ark is long gone but I still have the pair of 3 legged elephants.

Cruddles · 22/11/2019 23:35

Eurostar: last year during French train strikes our group of 13 were meant to get a train from Le Mans to Lille, then Eurostar to London. Train to Lille not running, got told to get three different trains to get there, via Paris. After two trains we're at Gar Du Nord, i pop into Eurostar and see if they can change our tickets from Lille to be from Paris. They did it no problem and we ended up in London 2 hours ahead of our original ticket.

Nationwide: got my card eaten at an ATM in a scam, £400 taken. Reported it the next morning, which was a Saturday. They explained the scam and how i got done, and replaced the cash in an hour.

Greeper · 23/11/2019 08:07

First Direct, EE
Less so John Lewis sadly, they seem a bit frantic in store anyway! The Customer services people on the phone are OK (although I wouldn't need them if they hadn't stuffed up the in store order)

Difficultcustomer · 23/11/2019 08:26

@Vanannabananna what are you doing with your see through swim suit?

Loads of places including Costco, M&S and Tesco when I broke my ankle and was in a wheelchair.

PC world were great helping me try on fitbits and were brilliant taking it back when it was not working.

Vanannabananna · 23/11/2019 08:32

I’m keeping it. Luckily it’s underneath on the bit that covers my bum so it’s not massively visible to everyone else. I was just annoyed it happened after one wear!

WicketWoo · 23/11/2019 08:36

Disney World.

Every staff (cast) member cannot do enough to help you. They are great sorting bookings and reservations and I'm pretty sure they actually mean it when they tell you to have a nice daySmile

PrivateSpidey · 23/11/2019 09:04

M and S café as well here. All the staff are lovely in
