My DD started to learn to drive last year. I bought her a block of 10 lessons with the guy who 2 of her friends passed with.
As she neared the end of her block of lessons she said she didn’t feel comfortable with this instructor and asked if we could have a look around for a female one instead.
For the record, the male instructor was never ‘inappropriate’ - DD just found him a bit overbearing and shouty. She is on meds for anxiety & found the lessons stressful.
I asked in our local community Facebook page for recommendations for an easy going, friendly female instructor. Several people mentioned the same person so I got in touch and booked a double lesson to see if DD got on with her.
All seemed fine and at the end of the lesson I paid for a block of 10. DD returned from the first of these in bits as the instructor had gone ballistic at her for a small mistake. Things did not improve and by lesson 4 DD decided she couldn’t face driving anymore. She was spending the summer abroad then starting Uni in Sept so driving wasn’t a priority for her.
I contacted the instructor explaining DD wasn’t feeling mentally ready to continue with lessons.
I was told that the block lessons were non refundable (fair enough) but my son was turning 17 in Sept so he could he use the remaining 6 lessons? This was agreed.
Since then (August) all attempts to contact this instructor have been hard going. After texting, emailing and FB messaging she only eventually contacted me when I posted on her Fb wall. She said she was fully booked but would be ok for my son to start the following month (Oct). We are now heading towards the end of Nov and she refuses to reply to any form of contact. I’ve offered compromises like late evening or early morning lessons or a refund if she’s unable to fit him in.
I’m loathe to give up trying as it’s a fair bit of money to just write off but what can I do if she refuses to reply to me? It’s so unprofessional and tbh I don’t think I want her teaching my son now but it’s the principle.
Any ideas what I can do next?
