Does anyone have any book recommendations for a 7 year old who I think is ready for a chapter book but nothing too intense? TIA

Try the 13 storey treehouse series. They were the ones that first got my DSs into chapter booka

The Thirteen Storey Treehouse series - these look very thick books, but are not difficult to read!
Dirty Bertie series.
Horrid Henry books.
The Jolley Rogers series.

Fantastic Mr Fox was the first chapter book loved by my DC.

But yes the Treehouse books are great.

I'd second Horrid Henry and Dirty Bertie.
It really depends on what he's interested in though. The best book will be one he's chosen himself. Take him to your local library or bookshop and don't rush him Smile

Some picture book authors are now writing slightly longer versions for this age group. We have chapter books that follow on from the Shifty McGifty and Slippery Sam books by Tracey Corderoy, for example. They're an easy introduction to longer books as the characters are familiar.
