Calling in sick to new job

I started in a new hospital department 3 weeks ago. I came down with d&v after arriving home last night and have been so unwell overnight, unable to even keep sips of water down. I’m also almost 12 weeks pregnant. I am so mortified at having to call in sick so early on In my new role I was literally shaking when I phoned up! Blush. Bit of a pointless post just so stressed about it for some reason that I need to vent!

No hospital department is going to thank you for coming to work with d&v. If you're ill, you're ill. It's not your fault.

Don’t worry at all these things happen and you are being responsible not going in and spreading the germs around! You are doing the right thing even though In some ways it’s the harder thing if it’s worrying you to do! Well done you!!!

As someone who works in healthcare I would be happy that you’ve kept your germs away. The amount of people who come to my front desk and say ‘oh I’ve been being sick all night but I managed to come to my appointment’ makes me want to go mad!

You are doing exactly the right thing,OP, you have no choice and yes, dioralyte is disgustingGrin
Reminds me of the time I landed my absolute Dream Job. After my first day I went out that night to celebrate my success by eating a dodgy curry......
I think that the company were impressed that I loved the job so much that I'd celebrated itGrin
I re-started my Dream Job a week later, much thinner...GrinGrinGrin

Congrats on your pregnancyFlowers

These things happen OP, you can't help being ill and I'm sure they'll understand and rather you were off, especially with D&V!

Not like me, who 3 weeks into a new job did something v stupid (I won't say exactly what as it would probably be quite outing if anyone did happen to see it!) and ended up with concussion Blush

Pomley · 20/11/2019 09:47

I always feel the same about things like this, but absolutely the right thing to do for both yourself and for the people you work with and patients. Hope you feel better soon Flowers

Stillfunny · 20/11/2019 09:49

Heads up : You can mix dioralyte with cordial and sparkling water to make it more palatable.Flowers

I always feel like this when I’m ill and have to phone work and get really worked up about it before I make the call Blush But it can’t be helped!

Pinkblueberry · 20/11/2019 09:51

If you’re ill you’re ill. People get ill and can’t choose when that happens - I wouldn’t judge anyone for that even if they’re new. I think only dicks think badly of people for becoming poorly. Get well soon Smile
