Espresso maker help

Going cross-eyed looking at different models!

Does anyone know of such a thing as a coffee machine that fulfils these essential features:

  • Espresso or Americano maker, not a filter coffee machine
  • Uses either ground coffee or coffee beans, not pods/capsules
  • Makes at least 4 coffees at once.
  • Does not cost the absolute earth!

To explain: we have an ancient and fairly basic DeLonghi espresso maker that makes lovely coffee and fulfils all the above criteria, except that it only makes 2 single espressos at a time, which is a pain as we usually want to be making several at once (big family, and often have extended family or other guests round). It's getting towards the end of its life so I'd like to replace it as a Christmas present for DH, but I really want to find a larger capacity one and can't. We definitely don't need a super expensive all-singing all-dancing machine that makes lattes, cappucinoes etc, nor do we need a bean to cup machine (though would be happy with one). Am I in cloud cuckoo land thinking that the machine of my dreams exists, or should we just stick with a stovetop pot?

What about an aeropress? Less than £30 and can just about make 4 espressos.

From googling I don't think an aeropress can make espresso in the same way a electric espresso maker can (not the same amount pressure), otherwise that would be a good shout.

(Personally I'd probably be quite happy with the aeropress coffee tbh, but DH is clear that he only likes "proper" concentrated espresso, so as it's a present for him I have to get it right!)

Does it have to be a machine? Can you get a large stovetop espresso pot?

My dad has a Gaggia which fulfills all those requirements except the expensive one! How cheap did you need it to be?

WishITookLifeSeriously, hmmm, well I don't have a budget exactly, was just a bit put off by the idea of paying ludicrous money for the many machines I've seen that make 2309234234 different kinds of coffee but still only make 1 or 2 espressos at a time! Do you have a link to the Gaggia one he has?
