Prayers to St Anthony!

loubieloo4 · 19/11/2019 12:49

I can't find our life insurance policy to check something, sadly we are making a claim as dh (39) has terminal bowel cancer. I know I had it back in August when we first started our claim. However, it seems to have vanished 😖

I have prayed to St Anthony!

Checked so far:
Filing cabinet
DH's hospital paperwork
Junk draw
all cupboards in kitchen
Desk
Living room
Children's art folder

Urgh

Anything in your emails? Check all boxes, inbox, junk, archive.

Longdistance · 19/11/2019 12:52

So sorry to hear about your dh Flowers

Foslady · 19/11/2019 12:57

Sorry about your news.
Have you checked if they were on the top of a drawer that they aren’t jammed against the top so aren’t sliding with the drawer or even slid down the back either fully or part way so between the back and h thy e back if the drawer?

Flowers Have you checked handbags and your car in case you took it out for something?

Can you phone them and ask for another copy - once you've done that, yours might turn up because you'll be less worried about it.

firsttimebuyer20 · 19/11/2019 13:01

Check old handbags in case you've had it out of the house.
Any bags/boxes upstairs that you've used to chuck stuff in until you get a chance to sort through it all? That's where I found my passport.

BethanyGilbert · 19/11/2019 13:02

So sorry about your news.

PrincessLouis · 19/11/2019 14:05

Hi @loubieloo4, so sorry to hear your news. Re the policy, a few ideas:

  • Do you know who the provider is? Could contact them or use that term to search your and DH’s emails
  • Did you buy the policy through a broker or financial adviser? Could check with them
  • Could check your & DH’s bank statements for monthly premium
  • Did you ever give a copy to anyone eg anyone holding a copy of your will?
loubieloo4 · 19/11/2019 20:06

I need our original copy as it says they will pay out for a terminal illness if less than two years life expectancy, they are saying it's 12 months.

I remember having it in Late July early August when I first spoke to them, I even highlighted the 2 year bit.

Not what I need to be arguing at this point.

His oncologist isn't hopeful we will get 12 months so in the long run it won't matter sadly. It would just be nice for it to be sorted and one less thing for dh to be worrying about.

firsttimebuyer20 · 19/11/2019 22:39

I hope you find it @loubieloo4 Thanks

PrincessLouis · 21/11/2019 20:31

Hi @loubieloo4. Who told you you need your own original? That would be v unusual (I am a lawyer)

Namechangenecessity · 21/11/2019 20:35

I’m on it! 🙏🏻 If you remember who it is with I’m sure the firm would be able to locate your policy for you? I’m so sorry about your DH, sending love and positive thoughts.

INeedNewShoes · 21/11/2019 20:36

Sorry that you’re in this situation.

My insurers for various things all email me the documents as well as sending hard copy. They’ll be the same as the ‘original’ for wording so could help. Have you done a search of your email inbox just in case they’re there?

AnuvvaMuvva · 21/11/2019 20:36

Is it on top of the scanner tray in the photocopier/printer?

loubieloo4 · 21/11/2019 21:00

@PrincessLouis
The insurance company have asked me to send a scanned copy to show that it states 2 years life expectancy.

I know who the policy is with and even have the policy numbers (I wrote them down when I rang them earlier in the year!) I have the original applications also I just can't find the bloody policy booklet.

I have checked the printer etc. I'm pretty sure if I ask them for a copy it will be the newer version that is 12 months life expectancy🤬

I'm going to pull out all of my desk/study over the weekend.

Flowers For you and your family.
Could it have fallen down the back of a drawer- in between the backboard and the drawer? I’m forever pulling paper/socks from behind different units

nitgel · 21/11/2019 21:10

Google how to fjnd items using a pendulum. It worked for me. What's to lose ?

PrincessLouis · 21/11/2019 21:15

@loubieloo4 So sorry you are dealing with this needless bureaucracy at this time.

I would be very surprised if the insurer didn’t have a copy. Ask them to send it to you - if it says 12 months you have lost nothing as can still look for your copy, if it says two years you don’t have to look.

Another option would be to call the insurer’s bereavement team if they have one, rather than the general call centre, as they will be trained to deal with these sad situation (not excusing the general call centre!) eg www.aviva.co.uk/help-and-support/managing-your-policy/bereavement/.

Have you checked both your emails?

user1471505356 · 21/11/2019 21:16

The insurance company will have a copy of the original contract , provided you have the policy number they will honour the agreement.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 21/11/2019 21:16

The insurance company have asked you to send a scanned copy of a document they sent you in the first place so they can check a detail?

Nah. Call them in the morning and ask to speak to a supervisor in the bereavement or vulnerable customer team. They will help you through this. No need to tear the house apart looking for paperwork and to get all stressed.

(Although you could also try 'holy St. Joseph, holy St. Anne, find that doc as fast as you can' if you want to bring the big guns out.)

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 21/11/2019 21:17

X posts! Big financial services companies have people in place to help you so don't be fobbed off OP.

user1471505356 · 21/11/2019 21:20

Ps, the only requirement for an original document may be to ensure you are a legitimate beneficiary.

speakout · 21/11/2019 21:20

Your insurance company will be able to provide you with a copy of the policy.

loubieloo4 · 21/11/2019 21:21

Thank you.

I will contact them tomorrow to see if they can send me a copy. I have check both emails!

It's going to be in a book somewhere I'm sure, I take notes of all conversations so its probably in tucked into a notebook. It's a4 sized and not folded up.

@PrincessLouis
Thank you for suggesting the bereavement team, hopefully Legal and General have one, they might be a bit more sympathetic than the normal call centre staff I have spoken with so far.

loubieloo4 · 21/11/2019 21:24

I'm probably getting more upset as I seem to be fighting the insurance company all the bloody time. The claim started in July and I am still waiting 🤬

@Lonny 🤣is that a legit one, I’m a Catholic and I’ve not come across it before 🤣 like it though.
