Fluoxetine for anxiety

Anyone else have any experience of taking fluoxetine for anxiety. I am on day 19 and still feeling panicky. Is this normal?

They say give it 3-4 weeks to kick in. You should be seeing your gp for a follow-up about now. Perhaps the dose is a bit low or you need to try a different drug

Yes. My daughter was on it for ust over two years. Its effect is very gradual, but I could see what a difference a year made. She could so so many things that she wouldn't have done previously. She no longer takes it.

Give it time. Your does may have to be adjusted. And be kind to yourself Flowers

It didn't really work for me but I was only on it for about 8wks. I was able to work on my generalised anxiety disorder myself and am currently off meds. Mine spiralled from a specific situation I was catastrophising over so was therefore a bit easier to work on.

It's definitely worth keeping in touch with your GP as there are lots of different AD meds and lots of different doses. I was started on quite a low dose and if I needed meds again I think I would go back to my GP early on to discuss if I felt they weren't working. In fact, I think I had most relief from taking beta blockers.

Be kind to yourself. I'm in such a different place to a year and a half ago. I'm still working on my anxiety but my confidence has grown and my world is far more than my anxiety bubble. It's now a part of me rather than surrounding me.

I stopped because I got the shakes. It did stop the depression though. I found even the small time I was on it was enough to get me back up to speed though.

It works miracles for me, but made DH worse.
You need to consult with your doctor about it really. It's different for everyone.
If it's not for you, there are other things that you can try instead. You need proper advice though, we can only tell you how it was for us personally.
Don't give up, there will be something that will work for you, it might be fluoxetine or it might be something else.

It's been amazing for me, helped my anxiety massively. Doesn't mean it will work the same for everyone though. Have you had a review with your GP?

I'm on my seventh week with fluoxetine. Started off on 20 and just moved up to 40. It is fairly slow acting and will take about a month to feel any proper benefit but it is doing the trick so far for me.

Fluoxetine made my anxiety worse. My GP changed me to Citalopram, I still have anxiety but not as bad.
