Moving to Hertford

I am hoping to relocate from London to Hertford. We have some older relatives there and would like to be nearer. Hoping to be close to the town centre if possible, as both myself and DH will still be working in London. Both train stations are fine for our commute.

Are there any areas we should avoid looking? That are not so nice.
We have a budget of £550k for a 3 bedroom house. It seems like this is do-able, which areas should we be looking at? 2 primary school age DC. Also thinking ahead in terms of secondary school. Any advice appreciated Smile

Avoid Sele Farm estate I would say. Secondary Schools depends if you want single sex or mixed. Boys school is Richard Hale and pretty good, girls is Presdales in Ware (not sure if Hertford falls in catchment) For mixed I would say Simon Balle over Sele School. Then there's Haileybury if you want private.
Can't answer for primary schools I'm afraid although I believe Simon Balle is a 'right through' school (can't remember correct terminology but basically primary and secondary!
Hertford is a lovely town, lots of places to eat and drink, events on at the castle and some lovely little shops. Great walks up at Hertford Heath. Only thing against it is traffic getting in and out at peak times. Gascogne way is choccablock regularly so maybe look Ware side of Hertford rather than Hertford North/Hatfield side. However someone else may suggest alternative point of view on that.

Thank you.
One of the houses we had seen looks as if it's just off Gascogne way so that's a good tip. We may leave it off our viewing list.
