What are your iPad house rules?

My 9yo is desperate for an iPad. I want to make sure it comes with ground rules regarding how much she can use it (she’d be on it 24-7 given half a chance) but I want to make sure I’m hitting the right balance.

If you have a 9 year old with a tablet, what do you do in terms of how much time they spend, where they play etc?

I'm quite lenient with time, it's the content that I have locked down. Time is a funny one as, in the summer she didn't really want to be on it but now there's not a lot else to do unfortunately, so I'm more lax!
I have her as a family member on my iCloud account and that means I can set screen time cut offs. Her iPad just goes defunct, you can set certain apps to stop working or everything to stop. Handy!

My 5 year old has one. Weekends only and only for an hour. I find her behaviour is worse when she uses the tablet but she has to use it for school stuff.

As to where, we have a no iPads or phones upstairs rule. They leave them out downstairs so I can easily see if there is one missing (I have multiple dc, dd10 is youngest)
Also, no tech at the dinner table is also a good rule!

Definitely no tech at mealtimes! We already have ‘no phones at the table’ rule, so that will be ok. I’m going to need to read up on how to keep parental controls tight.

find her behaviour is worse when she uses the tablet me too monstranceclock
I wonder if there is a reason for that, DD is 8 and sometimes she gets too hyper after using the IPad, be it an hour or 20 mins, she uses it only on weekends but Still,

The behaviour thing really concerns me. She has minecraft on the computer and plays roblox on my old phone and if she’s been on either for too long I really know about it.

We don't have Apple devices. They're far inferior to android. No rules here.

Mine also has a noticeable behaviour deterioration after iPad or switch (less so than ipad).
He has to earn it throughout the week to get it at weekends for 90 minutes and can earn bonus time if he does something sensible.

My 6 year old has an iPad. I put educational games on it and ask him to play them before he does/watches the things he wants. His behaviour is fine with the iPad and he will come off it whenever I ask him. The Xbox however is another story, that makes him emotional and dramatic for some reason.
