Can I change a middle name?

My DS (6) has a middle name of someone who has gone NC with us and won't see again. Is it possible to change a middle name? Is it just too much effort?!

You can change your child's name by Deed Poll for around £100.00. My niece changed her surname when she was12 because my sister got married and my niece wanted the same surname as her Mum. Is it worth it for a middle name though? Do you ever use it?

You could.. but why would you? That name belongs to your child now, it's coincidental that someone else also has the same name. You can't go through life expecting to never meet anyone with your own name that is less than stellar, that's just silly.

How does your six year old feel about changing his name? I dare say he might be attached to his name and not want to change it. Don't make this about you and your feelings, it's about your DS.

It's not about be, it doesn't bother me really, I can't go into too many details but it's more for the sake of another family member. My child wouldn't care either way I can say confidently, but I agree it feels odd, like a name is you and not something that can just be changed, different to a surname. It's a common name so it doesn't matter really, just makes me a bit sad, I think middle names are to mark special people in your life so this feels wasted. But it probably isn't worth the effort.
