Work in Ellesmere Port so where to buy?

Looking to move as new job in Ellesmere Port. Haven’t visited the surrounding area yet but have been scouring Rightmove and am very confused re areas! So budget up to £650k, detached at least 2+ bedrooms, large garden with room to extend if needed, kids grown up so just myself and husband. Have been looking at Chester and surrounding area, and now thinking of Neston/Wirral or Deeside as Chester pretty pricey. Any suggestions of good areas? Thanks

Can anyone let me know what they think of these options?

Heswall, Gayton, Thornton Hough, Raby, Parkgate, Burton, Ness, Willaston.

MsFrosty · 17/11/2019 17:57

Depends what you want her you live. Ness is lovely but a flood risk and pretty isolated. The house on spital road is a busy road, expensive for location in my opinion. If your working in the Port I'd be looking af Ledsham, burton, illaston puddington and Backford

Heswall is affordable for you, but you will get much more for your money in the places that @groundfloor pointed out.

West kirby is a naice seaside town but gardens tend to be on the small side.

If you need to think about secondary options wirral has excellent grammars and the cut off point or the wirral boundary is at Raby I think.

Chester is horrendously congested, don't consider a commute that involves it at rushour.

Wirral is a v lovely place to live, I miss it.

MsFrosty · 17/11/2019 18:05

I personally would afford west kirby. High incidence of anti social behaviour and house prices are dropping. If you go for heswall stick towards Gayton and lower heswall.

No kids at home now so don’t have to consider schools.

All of those areas are nice but....
Frodsham to ellesmere port can be a nightmare just to sheer volume of accidents on the M56, its notorious. Tarvin Rd, you would have to come through chester, very congested so can add to journey time. Mollington is lovely and out of the 3 the one I'd choose

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 18:18

Would Hawarden or Mold be worth looking at? Not sure what the commute would be like?

Thanks MsFrosty for the information. This one -if we could extend it- might be interesting?

Personally I wouldn't. It's a further commute and for your money there are far nicer areas

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 18:26

Any ideas re Deeside?

Do NOT buy the house on Tarvin Road Littleton. I used to travel along there to work. It's a very busy, very congested main road. You will never get out of your drive.

The commute around Ellesmere Port can be an absolute nightmare. I used to work there. Because it's right slap bang in the middle of two motorways, and has Cheshire Oaks as well it does get really busy around rush hour.

For your budget, there are lovely houses and areas nearby. I live in North Wales and for your budget I'd recommend Hawarden.

PearlsBeforeWine · 17/11/2019 18:36

Honestly the M53 never gets that busy, Wirral is pretty much empty... Grin

But avoid 540 and M56... My husband was late every single Friday night because there was always some hoohah with accidents. Etc.

What do you actually want out of a place to live OP? Village? Rural? Town? Nightlife? That will make all the difference.

For what it's worth my dad lives in Heswall and it's lovely. Got enough going on and some nice pubs but it's bigger and busier than my personal preference

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 18:43

Thanks Fatted!
Can you tell me where in North Wales would be a good commute to Ellesmere Port?

OP posts:
MsFrosty · 17/11/2019 18:43

Last one is good. Lower heswall, near shops and restaurants and nice walks nearby

PearlsBeforeWine · 17/11/2019 18:44

I wouldn't do the top two. But I know Alvanley... For a start there's stacks of industries oil refineries near there..plus M56 runs alongside... .you can really really smell the pollution from the top of a nearby hill.

PearlsBeforeWine · 17/11/2019 18:46

Agree, that's a lovely road to live on, I'd go and see that one.

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 18:48

Hi Wombat, looking for detached, decent sized garden and not too overlooked, Don’t mind doing work or extending if right price. Would like to be within walking distance of either village or town with a pub or shops? Not bothered re nightlife! Reasonable commute to Ellesmere Port and area where prices might go up in future?

OP posts:
Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 18:51

Pearls is it the Mollington house you think is worth viewing?

OP posts:
Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 18:53

MsFrosty is it the Oldfield Road house? Sorry I am getting confused re links!

OP posts:
MsFrosty · 17/11/2019 18:57

Yes the oldfield house. I think the mollington one is great too. Areas are very different so depends what you want

Movein2020 · 17/11/2019 19:00

Thanks MsFrosty will definitely add it to my list!
