Work in Ellesmere Port so where to buy?

Looking to move as new job in Ellesmere Port. Haven’t visited the surrounding area yet but have been scouring Rightmove and am very confused re areas! So budget up to £650k, detached at least 2+ bedrooms, large garden with room to extend if needed, kids grown up so just myself and husband. Have been looking at Chester and surrounding area, and now thinking of Neston/Wirral or Deeside as Chester pretty pricey. Any suggestions of good areas? Thanks

I had hoped the Abbots Grange wasn’t close to HMOs but suspected it would be and be a noisy area. Think the parking issues would rule the other house out.

If I gave the budget an almighty stretch!
Any idea about this area?

Thats not a bad area as such, but it is a bit more industrial than it appears on the particulars. Near a small industrial park, Airbus factory and an airfield. You probably wouldn't see much from the house, but it isn't a rural idyll. There is a small ex military housing estate nearby.

Think I will take it off my list. Thanks for the advice.

Oh and there isn't much within walking distance. No shop or pub.

Missillusioned · 17/11/2019 22:32

Best thing to do is to drive round some of these areas and take a look. Wirral is probably best for the commute, but I wouldn't discount North Wales.

Hoping to visit area for the first time next week. Can’t wait and all the advice has been really useful!

The abbots grange one is near the uni but down a quiet road of nice houses and no student housing/ hmos. You can easily walk into town. However you said you wanted detached?

The whitefriars one is right in the centre of Chester in a beautiful cobbled street of residential housing and houses converted to drs, lawyers etc - downside is that I think you could have some noise fri/ sat nights and race days and you'd need to check parking situation, I think it's permit and street parking down there.

I think you need to visit all these places and pick a city/ town/ village you like as the places you've posted are all so different!

Oops, see you are visiting soon!

Ellesmere Port very commutable from North Wales and Chester, M53 gets busy but still not bad commute from Cheshire. Avoid Deeside, very worse part of North Wales border area. For Wirral, wouldn't go further than West Kirby. Chester is not as grand as it once was but still a lovely very small city. Have a look at Parkgate area, some lovely properties close to M53 for commute. Ellesmere Port itself to be avoided.

I know, so many lovely places and all have something going for them!

Could either of these be worth a visit?

Both houses are in well established "nice" residential areas with second, Upton, one further from city centre. Both would give you easy access to M53 to get to Ellesmere Port, first one close to A55. Sorry, in previous post I meant M56 not M53 being busy if you were looking more north in Cheshire to Frodsham, etc. You might also want to look around Stockton Heath area, close to M56 and nearer to Liverpool and Manchester but lots of bars restaurants, good high street .

Movein2020 · 18/11/2019 10:09

Zoomzoomboom will have a look at Stockton Heath. Thanks.

Yes, both Upton and Boughton are nice. Upton is near the zoo and in some properties you get the added bonus of being able to hear the Lions roar at night, which makes your barbeque parties sound very exotic 😂

Movein2020 · 18/11/2019 11:17

Definite selling point!

GeoffreyAndBungle · 18/11/2019 11:28

The Boughton house is right by a busy high school (Bishops) so wd need to check for noise, parking etc but it's a very nice area down by the river. And I do like that house and garden!

Upton also very nice and on the right side of Chester for getting to Ellesmere Port, Demage Lane is very posh!

I really love Stockton Heath but there are always problems on M56 which would impact you getting to/ from work. Seriously, problems almost almost every day.

Movein2020 · 18/11/2019 11:36

School noise etc might be an issue. Will look again at Upton. Thanks

Are you working near the centre? If you can use Merseyrail, that might sort out the traffic issue. I stayed in the area in the summer, near Little Sutton. It seemed ok as an area though it looks like you have a generous budget so could go posher? I wasn't keen on the bit of North Wales immediately over the border eg Connah's Quay but the villages further in are nice, but that makes the commute longer.

The south of Liverpool could potentially work - not sure about the commute though. But with that budget there are some gorgeous houses in the nice parts.
