How many people would a leg of Lamb feed in your house

Ideally just me as I love lamb Grin DH isn't a fan so wouldn't have much, the kids would have a bit... so I'd probably get another 3 meals out of it, maybe more! Depends on the size!

TheQueef · 17/11/2019 16:00

3 at a push.
I only buy shoulder now so I can have leftovers.

Pajamagirl · 17/11/2019 16:03

Prob 4 to 6
But massive amounts of roasties to go with it

TonTonMacoute · 17/11/2019 17:48

3?!

A whole leg should easily feed 4-6 people, depending how big it was, especially with veggies and roast potatoes thrown in.

karala · 17/11/2019 17:50

I had the butcher butterfly a whole leg of lamb in the summer and it fed 12 people with seconds. a whole leg of lamb is huge.

aliensprig · 17/11/2019 17:52

Lambs legs belong on the actual lamb. :( Please don't eat babies.

CatUnderTheStairs · 17/11/2019 17:52

A whole leg of lamb, 8 to 10 with lots of sides.

ZenNudist · 17/11/2019 17:56

10

Lindy2 · 17/11/2019 17:56

We've just had a half leg of lamb and it served 4 with leftovers for tomorrow.

NaomiFromMilkShake · 17/11/2019 17:57

aliensprig

How old are you ?

That is like something a teenager would say.

I would respect a grownup argument well laid out, but .......

Lambs legs belong on the actual lamb. Sad Please don't eat babies.

Give me strength.

Dustarr73 · 17/11/2019 17:58

We had it for dinner and we got 3 adults and 3 kids out of it.I still have a bit left over.

Not enough for another meal,so maybe some sandwiches.

OP posts:
Happyspud · 17/11/2019 18:02

I would think 6 adults! I’ve a huge one in my freezer from my best friends farm and am hoping it will cover 10 of us with loads of sides and maybe some other meat.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 17/11/2019 18:02

It would have done two meals for me, DH and DS, we used to be huge meat eaters. Since its now just DS and I we don't tend to get roasting joints as there's too much waste. I love a leg of lamb.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 17/11/2019 18:17

DH cuts up lamb legs into lamb steaks, lamb pieces for Chinese meals and lamb misshapes for stew or casserole. We get about 10 meals for 2 out of it. He then simmers the bone for stock.

We eat lamb quite a lot as I won't eat poultry.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 17/11/2019 18:20

All 7 of us (2 adults, 4 children, 1 toddler) plus a bit for the dog & depending on size possibly enough for a small curry for me & Dh (padded out with veg)

TheQueef · 17/11/2019 18:22
  1. With no leftovers. There are two toddlers but I don't count those as one only eats paper and the other has the bone. Grin
It's a huge favourite, we have it for Christmas lunch with a turkey crown as a nod that we eat for sandwiches later.
AnchorDownDeepBreath · 17/11/2019 18:28

Half a leg of lamb will do one big meal for me and fiancé, if we don't have much with it, or two pretty good meals with sides...

Probably depends what you do with it, though.

voddiekeepsmesane · 17/11/2019 18:31

Surely it depends on how big the leg is?! We get half a leg for 3 adults. Or sometimes a whole leg then I freeze in small quantities for sandwiches.

Chewbecca · 17/11/2019 18:31

6 adults. Leftovers possible, depending who is eating, it could easily be polished off by some diners.

ChaoticKate · 17/11/2019 19:06

@aliensprig. Leg of lamb doesn’t come from ‘babies’; it comes from an animal that will have been already weaned and may be anywhere between 4 and 12 months old. A sheep can be sexually mature at 5 months so is by no means a baby. ‘Baby’ lambs are not slaughtered for meat, there would be no point as they’re far too small. So please don’t make silly, misleading statements without knowing the facts. If you buy local and direct from the farmer you can be confident that high welfare standards have been observed throughout the animal’s life and if you buy grass fed you can also be sure it’s spent its entire life outdoors eating only what comes very naturally.

I would expect a leg of lamb to feed 4-6 adults dependent on appetite and cut. A lot of legs of lamb that are sold are actually half legs because a full leg is actually quite large.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 17/11/2019 19:08

Not much but mine came from small sheep, breed not age

Fakeflowersaremynewnormal · 17/11/2019 19:27

I just had a half leg today it weighed 1.2kg (including a big bone)and fed 4 but not a massive portion of meat each.

cornstarch · 17/11/2019 19:28

4 people, but I always serve with sausages as well

Oblomov19 · 17/11/2019 19:33

Some legs are enormous and will feed 10 easily. I love a leg of lamb, we always have it for Christmas dinner.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 17/11/2019 19:37

A whole leg? About 8 easily.
