Calling all caterpillar experts!

Earlier today DS and I came across a little caterpillar on the pavement. Couldn’t stop to take a photo, but have tried googling it to find out what it was - with no luck.

Location: NW England
Size: approx 3cm long
Very fuzzy (not tufted, though) in all black, no visible markings or banding.

It’s driving me mad, and DS is quite unimpressed at my research skills Blush

A giant leopard moth caterpillar?

Olinguito · 16/11/2019 17:08

Oh no, I take that back. I think they're only in northern America!

oak processionary moth?

GerundTheBehemoth · 16/11/2019 17:17

White Ermine moth is black and fuzzy in caterpillar form.

PhonicTheHedgehog · 16/11/2019 17:20

Is it very hungry?

Osquito · 16/11/2019 20:02

@HappyHammy That’s actually the closest result I got myself, but to be honest it was so much fuzzier (very dense hairs) and completely black without a hint of anything else... just wondered if there was an uncommon one it could’ve been.

Thanks!
