Friend on sertraline 500mg

He was prescribed them this week and has taken his first pill today and is being very dramatic.

Surely one pill wouldn't make that much difference...?

I was going to say that I would imagine 500mg sertraline would make you feel extremely weird and high as a kite! But 50mg will take a little while to get used to and it's not a good idea to drink alcohol while taking them. I'm on a higher dose (150mg) but I can't drink at all now. I had half a glass of wine and felt like I'd drunk 2 bottles.

I have never felt as unwell as I did on that AD. I lasted 4 hellish weeks before switching. Lost 2 stone as I couldn't eat. Couldn't sleep either. Hell.

No way is he on 500mg, especially not immediately. A doctor wouldn't put someone on such a high dosage to start with.

@onthecoins no no, I explained upthread; he told me 500mg but after people expressed incredulity at this I went and found the packet to check and it's 50mg.

So he won't be seeing pink dragons, hopefully ;)

@stargirl1701 ouch, sounds like a nasty experience.

I've now told him about your experiences and he feels reassured that they can kick in straight away. Also said no alcohol. He was quite meek and agreed.

I often recommend taking 25mg for 4 days then increasing them...it does help the side effects. I've taken them myself so know what the buzz is like. Weird.

I took 50mg for a week then upped it to 100mg.
I felt high as a kite, was buzzing with energy and was very annoying (to myself as well as others).
I also had nausea and headaches, which wore off after a few weeks, as did the high feeling.
Some side effects have stayed, jaw clenching and others.
