Roman blinds - in or out?

Just about to order some for a few bedrooms. What looks better - inside or out the window space? Thought out would be better for blackout effect and more forgiving to error as measuring myself and ordering online

Generally I prefer inside the recess. It looks smarter and more ‘made to measure’.

I think in looks better too, from inside and outside the room. So long as you measure exactly according to the instructions they should fit well.

That's what I'd go for- inside the recess.

I've not long moved to a period house with a lot of windows. I buy Laura Ashley blinds of a similar size from gumtree, trim them to fit and tidy the edges. Have saved myself several thousand, I reckon.
