I’m on day 13 of taking Sertraline and I’m very close to throwing the towel in today. I’m so so exhausted. My eyelids feel so heavy from the minute I wake up until the minute I go to bed. I have kids to take care of. I have been feeling like this for about 4 days but it’s been getting progressively worse. Does anyone know if this is likely to pass? If only I could just go to my bedroom and sleep this off but this just isn’t an option.

Thanks.

If you read the massive list of possible side effects in the pack, it has many unfortunately.

I think my gp said it takes a few months to settle into working. For me it was two weeks.

If I was you I would check with the gp to make sure it is the sertraline and if it is, when to see the gp again if your still tired after x weeks.

I hope you feel better asap. I'm always exhasted but this has been suggested as a reason.

Sorry - NEVER been suggested as a reason

In my experience, it passes. It was a few years ago now, and I seem to remember the awful tiredness lasting about a fortnight but then wearing off.

Took me a few weeks to settle on them. I was exhausted and spacey to start with but now I'm feeling great on them. My GP had warned me that the first few weeks I might feel like this as well as the long list of side effects. Go back to your GP and talk to them about it.

See if the pharmacy can give you a different brand - I've been on it for years and the latest brand just knocked me out.

Or change to taking it at bedtime, that's what I've done and I've been sleeping like a log.

Thanks everyone. I’m already taking them in the evening and I’m falling asleep at 9ish and waking at around 5.30. I’m just struggling to get through the day. I’m not sure how to explain this but today the level of tiredness is giving me a very calm feeling which is a welcome break from the racing anxious thoughts I’ve been dealing with for so long. If lying in bed all day was an option I’d totally go with that. I have a review scheduled with my GP next week so I suppose I should just try to make it through the next few days until the appointment. I’m glad to hear that the exhaustion passed for some of you. Hopefully I’ll be feeling brighter in a few days time. If not then I’ll definitely look into changing the brand (thanks minnie).

To those of you who have been on it for a while, have you found sertraline to be pretty effective?

It stops me crying at the slightest thing. I did try to come off it a few years ago, but I was a blubbering wreck at work especially. I saw my GP who said I was best off staying on it. I do still have periods of anxiety (which is why I take it) but I'm sure they'd be worse and more frequent without it.

Do look at changing the brand - keep your packets so you know which one you've tried. If your current pharmacy doesn't have a choice, try a different one.
