Why is he so hysterical?!

Every morning my 18 month old DS wakes up screaming. He’s hysterical. Once he’s calmed down he’s a happy, loving little boy. But for the first 10-30 minutes you just can’t console him! He screams the house down.

It’s so exhausting. Especially when it starts at 5am and wakes his 4 yo sister up too.

Anyone else got experience of this. Will he grow out of it or is something wrong?

Sometimes they wake themselves up without wanting to and are grumpy about it. Perhaps he had a bad dream and really still needed to be asleep but couldn't get back. They do generally grow out if it, but it's horrible for them (and everyone else!) at the time. Brew

Sounds like night terrors to me. Both kids suffered although luckily my oldest more than my youngest (so far), although both of mine were closer to two when it started. Completely hysterical, inconsolable screaming - wouldn't let anyone hold them, couldn't get through. You've just got to sit with them until they come out of it and then comfort, nothing else to be done about it unfortunately. It's a very normal developmental stage.
