Anybody bought a phone from EE recently?

Before anything else, yes, I know I'm an idiot.

I dropped my phone and smashed it/uneconomical to repair at the weekend. Idiot Points: 10

I found a decent deal and bargained to get an even better one. Idiot Points: -5

It's been delivered to the store so I didn't have to risk missing it/having it delivered to a random person three streets away. Idiot Points: -5

I've just found out the ID requirements to collect it in store or have it delivered to home (because it wasn't stated at the time of purchase). They require a passport of driving licence. I don't drive, so I went to retrieve my passport from the filing cabinet.

It expired last week. Idiot Points: 10,000

If I go there with my just out of date passport, my work photo ID, my water bill, my inside leg measurement, bank card, the confirmation messages, etc - are they likely to give me my new phone? Or am I going to be stuck phoneless for 3+ weeks whilst I wait for a new passport?

I can't take time off work to get a rapid service one, I'm already eighty quid down through being stupid enough to have the old phone fall out of my hands, and I'd really rather like to have my replacement without any more difficulties.

Will the EE staff tell me to fuck off tomorrow evening or will they accept that it is me and I am allowed to collect my nice, shiny new phone and the expensive screen protectors and bulletproof case I have already paid for? and then use it to take a photo for my passport application

Argh!

I’m sure it will be fine, I need to take ID at work for anti money laundering regs and would take a passport that expired a week ago without even thinking about it.

They wont care the passport is out of date. It's just to prove it's you, and you are who you say you are, not travel anywhere.

missnevermind · 13/11/2019 19:11

An out of date passport is still a valid proof of identity.

Wasn't a problem in the end - they didn't check any passport and GAVE MY PHONE TO SOME FUCKING RANDOM two days before I tried to collect it.

Now embroiled in a 'Where's my phone?' EE: You collected it. Me: No I didn't. EE: Yes you did Me: Show me the security camera footage, my signature and me walking out with my phone. EE: Don't need to, we've got your money and bank details so we aren't talking to you anymore load of bullshit to deal with.

Any suggestions? Customer Services can't help, online help won't help (they're the ones who have called me a liar because the phone has been signed for, so they can't do anything - including putting me through to complaints, as that's not possible/they don't exist, apparently), I can't phone anybody BECAUSE I HAVEN'T GOT A FUCKING PHONE and the shop were of the opinion that I had to leave as they couldn't do a thing about it because they don't have it, sorry, go away now.
