What snacks would you take on a long haul flight?

Just looking for ideas!

We are travelling with Thai and last time the food was shit.
We want to take lots of snacks that will survive 14 hours, can get through security and would be just what you needed on a long flight

Just me and boyf, no kids 😉

I love plane snacks!

I bought one of those ginormous bars of duty-free chocolate last time I flew long-haul. Think it was Milka. I would highly recommend doing this. If I did it again, I'd probably buy two bars.

I always buy a meal deal from Boots in the airport and get Soreen as my snack 😋

All of my other snacks (crisps, chocolate, sweets) I buy from the supermarket, whatever is on offer for £1.

I'd buy two meal deals for that length of time of flight!

All the flights I've been on this year have announced someone with a nut allergy so no nuts allowed

I've flown more times than I can remember now and have never once heard a "nut allergy" announcement. I really don't think it's that common.

Water, Nakd bars, apples.

I hadn't heard one at all until this year either but I promise you, there was an announcement on all four trips (BA and Easyjet). Suspect a lot of it is a CYA exercise by the airlines but something to bear in mind for those who like to take nuts.

I am not a frequent flyer, but have taken a couple of nut free flights reasonably recently, so it is something to bear in mind.

I ate in the lounge, drank a lot then slept for 7 hours lol

Ill eat any old crap so never take food on a plane other than a bag of chewy mints. My DH on the other hand is a fussy vegetarian, so he always gets a sarnie from Boots or Pret or wherever when flying long haul.
All I will say is be a bit thoughtful of your fellow passengers! Nothing too smelly or too noisy to eat. If you sat next to me eating apples or crunchy crisps, I'm likely to stab you with my plastic fork 🤣🤣

SD1978 · 18/11/2019 05:16

Sandwiches for me usually- I do t particularly like the food, and would rather have something I do like. Pringle's are obligatory. Anything else you fancy really- muesli bars, apples trail mix.

Snowflake9 · 18/11/2019 05:19

NOTHING CHEESY!!

Literally my worse nightmare as a plane passenger are those who much on quavers or stinky sour cream and onion pringles. It makes me feel sick when the stench wafts over.

Depending upon the airline they might offer a fruit meal as one of their options which needs to be ordered at least 48 hours in advance.

sam221 · 18/11/2019 06:29

I truly loathe all airline food, I have flown my fair share from economy to first class and my opinion doesn't change-i am very fussy!
I take my own snacks, so crackers, olives, tiny cheeses(brie, salut etc), Ricola sweets, Quorn mini sausages and maybe some fav chocs plus a sandwich from Pret if long haul.
I also take disposable gloves and dettol wipes and clean everything before I take my seat(did get a lot of funny looks in first class but I didn't care)
Have a lovely time!

carlywurly · 18/11/2019 21:50

@MozzchopsThirty omfg they still do that bloody sandwich Grin you can't say I didn't warn you!

We are actually flying with them ourselves again in the new year so I must re read this thread and pack snacks myself..!

Agree - I fly fairly often with DD who has a serious nut allergy. Every time we tell the airline. They have never made an announcement. Not once.
